Made it from Bhutan, via India and Thailand to this lush tropical oasis. A bit hot and muggy but so far very nice weather 31c. Will rest up for the week with little excursions: kayaking, temples, caves and a like. Found a wonderful wood panel and carved room with tradition carved furn. and assorted artworks, huge balcony, for only $15nite @ Mano Gueststay on the "maindrag" of town. Bit sleepy (and dusty/smokey) lil' town located on the Mekong river - but just what I wanted after all the treks...
Luang Prabang, Lao Peoples Dem Rep bhutanbob Sooooo beautiful!!! - The journey to Pak Beng took about 7 Hours, but we could have sat on the boat for a life time....
Pak Beng was our home for the night, and a very spooky one!!! We stayed in the same hotel as the rest of the guys we traveled with on the journey - (cant remember the name of the Hotel, but it was opposite the Pak Beng Guest House). The views and the sunset looking down the Mekong River were spectacular.... The only thing to bother us here was the spooky, eerie feeli...

They kept a good 1 minute rally going on, which i thought was pretty impressive.

We made our way back to Luang Prabang and after having some food had a traditional Lao massage. The night market was buzzing with tourists and locals alike, strong smells of exotic food and souvenirs to pick up. We shared our first non-eastern meal with the Midlands boys, Matt and Carl (choosing the pizza and a cheese and bacon burger), washed down by a beer. When the rest of the gang found us, it ...

Once we got back to the original shore we headed back, and promptly found a tuk-tuk. it was just about to set off, and inside it was a Dutch guy. We asked the driver how much, and settled on a price of 30,000K each for the two of us, plus our bikes which we would collect when we passed the wooden canopy up the road. On getting in, the Dutch guy had obviously overheard this, and as he had agreed a price of 130,000K just for himself with the ...
Luang Prabang, Lao Peoples Dem Rep alastair6... looking for some fairly priced luxury should check out Le Bel Air, gorgeous private bungalows by the river next to the communist bridge for $75 a night. Around the town we went to one of the main temples and feel in love with a very friendly temple cat - who was guarding one of the small temples and was desperate for a cuddle. As we got back on our bikes to head back, a lovely old man approached us, who was selling the most amazing coconut lollipops for 2000kip (15pence ...

Luang Prabang, Lao Peoples Dem Rep sarahandwillStraight off the boat ****** up and wandering around town. Which doesn't take long as its one strip of road. Luang Prabang, Lao Peoples Dem Rep wickyjennings... and ended up at the top of a limestone cliff where we found a quiet field in which we decided to eat our picnic lunch. The setting was idyllic with the blue sky, the gentle buzz of insects and the distant hushed sound of falling water. Here, away from other people, was a quiet sunny spot straight out of a Laurie Lee book. I set about eating my sandwiches but after barely the first bite I noticed a small boy stood nearby, eyeing us with a look of severe consternation on his face ...
