... 100rupees for some made up law. Being a little merry, Mary said "no thanks" and we decided to run away. It actually worked!! Into the station we go and we approach the ticket counter. There was a queue 10 people deep. Indians are so friendly and helpful, they all pulled away from the counter and allowed us to ask the ticket man if there was anything we could do!!! Yes there was.

We accidentally drove straight past our hotel (the Hotel Sea View, which is about 300 yards from the sea) - but we managed to get a tuk-tuk back from Palolem to Patnem. So we were safely in our new hotel, for the next 4 nights, at about 5pm. The write-ups on Tripadvisor (thanks, Lynds!) are generally dreadful - with the owner receiving most of the flak, but our impressions ...

As usual he had a friend he had to take us to for a room. We've become a little more welcoming of this as usually its a good suggestion. We weren't let down this time.
