Lol.
Bon courage a tous....................
Reveil difficile vers 9 h, me leve vers 10h. Direct vais me baigner ...
Unawatuna, Sri Lanka emeric.bensaci... of the local residents than to relax in the sun, go on the ****, climb a mountain or ride the waves. Each person around you has some quality and somthing we can all learn and benefit from. For the most part I like to focus on the positive qualities rather than the "negatives" which, of course, being a judgement call is relative anyhow. Some people display qualities or aspects we try to cultivate in our own selves, and looking around me today, I have listed a few: Self-awareness ...
Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka bloomer... wave, 3 succeeding, and 2 colliding, since it is a double break and goes both ways. Neither one had the humility to bail out or to change course (the proper etiquette), so as a result they collided diagonally, leaving both in the water and cursing the other. Fights have broken out over such collisions, and I can say it is mostly because of yahoos who think they are better than they are playing an ego game. There are some good surfers here, sure, but I have seen much ...
Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka bloomer... they still weren't all that great. I saw a bunch of lobsters, one grouper, quite a few nudibranch (extremely small, colorful, and wormlike), and some moray eels. I assumed that pre-tsunami the diving was much better, but the divemasters from the diveshop said that the tsunami hasn't changed the diving very much. I'm very surprised because I always thought Sri Lanka had some really good diving. Luckily, I consider ...
Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka jeneggener... helped to calm the nerves after the airport journeys. Keen to fill the fridge, we set out in search of some cheap booze with which we thought we'd watch the sunset. Finding a wine shop proved pretty difficult in a largely Muslim area however and we eventually had to buy from a rather seedy underground liquor store, complete with security guard and brown paper bags! Like the time we bought bacon in Dubai , we felt like dirty old men in ...
Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka tomandcharlie... from success in driving "British style" in the left lane in South Africa, we decided to take a chance and do something that foreigners hardly ever do in Sri Lanka, we rented a car! Ummm, lets just say that it is the most extreme driving I have ever done, and actually it is a bit like a video game. Lane markings are thought of as mere suggestions, potholes big enough to break an axle pepper the roads, the horn is depressed constantly and at any time all of the following ...
Unawatuna, Sri Lanka globedecker... and surfers! I have realised that surfer fashion is universal. The compulsory long hair, toned body, Billabong T-shirt and border shorts were the kit of nearly every sri lankan male under the age of 40. Prices in Hikkaduwa were a little more expensive than Kandy, mainly because its a tourist beach resort. We were also finding that the Lonely Planet guide was out on prices by a few hundred rupees both in Kandy and again in Hikkadwa. Hikkaduwa was hit badly by the ...
Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka loubie... i have just been informed, in this land of ever changing information and rules that the alcohol ban in enforced for a whole week, which means another dry three days!! it's the only thing that keeps me moving. I feel like a donkey chasing the carrot on a stick along a dusty path. Except i am an increasingly desperate Englishman chasing a cold beer around the world, prepared to travel further and faster at any cost for one perfectly chilled larger!
Galle and Unawatuna, Sri Lanka jon_darby... man who is destroying their chance of survival. Remember, turtles can live up to 150 years and only reach breeding age when they are 20. But they were around to see the dinosaurs and the beginning of mankind so should be respected for that fact! Outside the sanctuary, I tried my first King Coconut. These coconuts are double to size of the normal ones and orange in colour. They're grown only for their juice since they can produce so much of it and on a hot day, it's ...
