... over 1.5 million tourists each year as it is the source of a natural spring. It's wierd seeing a fast flowing river and then walking 50 metres "upstream" and there only being a trickle.. and then a bit further and no water... nothing but a big cliff straight up!

The town itself is nestled in a valley and is particularly pretty at dusk when rocks take on the colours of the sunset ...

... we looked at the departure list and were unable to find a train listed for Avignon. We then learned that there were FIVE train stations in NIce! We then made the wise decision to get into the somewhat lengthy ticket line (we already had tickets via the web) to try and ascertain where our train was departing.

Thankfully we learned that our train was one of the ones listed under Paris at this train station ...

found a great little town in Provence.. and as they say "when in Rome (Provence)"... we had a great meal in true french restaurant... happy to be away from tourist food... and had some very nice red wine........ just a stopover but a friendly little place and nice hotel...

on the road again...

... and get the plane to Singapore. We should be sleeping in a hotel bed this time next week at Bintan Island and while this has been a fantastic trip I will be glad of a bigger bed and some luxuries.

we stopped by at pont du guard on the way here (really old roman aqueduct) which still blows my mine every time i see it. defo a must see in this area.

so i have been trying to muster up the courage to call the french family i lived with when i was here in school, but have not yet figured out how to say hi, remember me, its been 15 ...

Lucy asked for it and we got it. Today we experienced the beginning of the Mistral season. Each fall and winter Provence is swept by a wailing wind. Lucy made the mistake of saying that she'd be interested in being here for that. She got her wish and our last day was very windy. Luckily, the temperature held and we stayed comfortable, despite having bits of sand and debris swept into our eyes as we walked around.

We visited three towns ...

... of star fruit. It was lovely. Mine looked a little like breakfast cereal, but it was wonderful: chocolate raviolis in a white chocolate sauce with flambeed banana ice cream served on the side. The raviolis were garnished with petit strawberry and a yellow raspberry. It was all just perfect and a superb choice for our big dinner out. Recommend highly! At $27 Euro each, it was a steal compared to every place around it.

... wandered up and down the main streets in search of la internet, and even asked at a couple of hotels but no one seemed to understand what we were asking for. Having assumed "internet" would be understood worldwide, we weren't really sure how else to ask. Eventually this man in a little deli was so keen to help that he kept making us repeat it. "In-ter-net" we all tried saying, slowly and articulately. We probably stood there for about 5 minutes ...

... wij ze eigelijk niet echt gaan gebruiken. Dus geen bankrekening (= huisbazin kwaad) en geen gitaar (ik kwaad). Bij BNP Paribas (ja idd, die bank da daar Fortis wilt overpakken, se ******) zeiden ze dat we naar de bank van de Post moeten gaan. Probleem is alleen dat we altijd rond 17.45 in Montélimar zijn, en alles sluit om 18.00u. Op een kwartiertje 2 bankrekeningen openen..zo snel gaat het niet ...
