... We talked about Slovenia and Croatia. But decided that it was probably a little to far. So we settled on riding south into Italy.

Whew, time sure does fly when you're having fun! <---- that's my cliche to start out this blog, but it seems rather fitting.

These five and a half weeks in Italy have FLOWN by. <--- not sure, but that might be a cliche too!

We have not kept to our regular routine at all, we have been adventurous travelers, taking advantage of the location we are in - and have tried to make the most of it. We've leased a car - so we are able to take day trips here and there ...

... from Franco....We were on tour again...with F & P as guides up to the top of the Cengio Mountain... An historical spot where during World War1, the Italian and Austrian soldiers were in hand to hand combat as they had run out of ammunition ....and we're thrown down the cliffs....We walked the narrow cliff path and through tunnels along the edge...quite emotional to say the least. ... feel the atmosphere! Wow! .... Tom and John had found a restaurant in the back streets on a previous trip and we pushed past the tourists like locals till we got to our destination....where the owner's son runs the place with the hand of a mafioso....almost...!!!! Clam soup, seafood risotto, seafood pasta, espresso with grappa...what,...more food?? ....the night ...

... the most upmarket of all the Rifugios we stayed in on the trip. This is a very popular place and we witnessed rock climbers on the face of the 5 towers of Cinque Torre. It is also a memorial site for World War I with the remains of the trenches used by Italy in defending its territory still evident.
