The Basilica Cistern was stunning and lies beneath the city of Istanbul. The temple floor submerged in water with man made ramps allowing us to walk around it. The forest of column's were the only lite up part inside, so it naturally had an airy feel about it. On 2 particular columns were carved Medusa heads which looked awesome.

... of steps painted in a rainbow of colours, which were very aesthetic on the eye. In their wisdom the government authorities had decided to paint a particularly popular and prominent multicoloured flight of steps grey in the middle of the night. Word spread on social media and within a couple of hours opponents of the government turned out in force in the middle of the night to repaint these steps and hundreds of other grey ones throughout the city in rainbow colours.

... roasted eggplant stuffed with beef and lamb for mains and we finished the meal off with walnut stuffed dried figs cooked in sugar syrup for dessert. It was the best meal that we have had in Europe and I cooked it! The kitchen chef had a great sense of humour and had a few party tricks up his sleeve which made the experience lots of fun as well as educational. Our trip to Cappadocia (Kapadokya in Turkish) consisted of another night bus, to central Turkey. The ride was almost 12 hours, but totally worth it for the price. We arrived early in the morning last Friday, and I was immediately impressed by the landscape.
