... of the same everyday,'' say the youthful mob. Welcome to the working world, lads.

Time and contract run out, and I begin to get cabin fever in my 5-star suite. Three bedrooms, one bed, 2 bathrooms and kitchen etc. Muchas gracias to the kindness of my employers, but when I start watching reruns on the 5 movie channels, for the third time, I know that something has to change.

Close up the Indo chapter with another few weeks on Simeulue. Do the bookkeeping, run the rule over the ...

CONTIKI - ISTANBUL

... 32 for a small kabab and a JD and coke; wow! It was very late by the time we headed off to bed.
DAY 30 - ISTANBUL
Today we got up for some site seeing with a guide. First we saw the Blue Mosque, which was very different to what we have seen before, in relation to churchs. You have to take off your shoes to go in. Of course my giant shoes needed two bags to carry them:) There is over 2800 Mosques in Istanbul; crazy. All of them go off something like 5 times a day with full ...

Straddling the continents

... exceptional smells, exotic looking treats and the odd genuine bargain gives you that pulse raising Bazaar buzz. It was rather exhilarating, I could have pushed my way through that place all day. Picking up two handfuls of Turkish delight for a little under a pound was the highlight of the day and needless to say- it didn't last the hour. In the evening Nick, and I found a little shisha bar and whiled ...

... I was brimming with energy and eager to get my last day in Istanbul underway. My first task was to organize transport to the airport. My flight was leaving Sabiha Gokcen airport at 4pm so I would have plenty of time to get there. I found this shuttle bus service that would make the run for Eur12 and pick me up from the hostel. It is a pretty good price considering a taxi will be in the region of Eur50. The only difficulty is that because its not the main airport the service only ...

Istanbul - Where East Meets West

We took an overnight train to Istanbul from Plovdiv. We had to wake up about 1.5 hours into the journey to go thru Bulgaria immigration. Then, about another 2 hours, we had to get out to get our Turkey visa which was only paying $20 for a sticker and wait in a long line for our immigration stamp. As Theresa would say, "welcome to Turkey time." We just always had to remind ourselves that we were not in control! We got into Istanbul around 10 am. We could not check into our ...

After a few more pics of the courtyard and the views over Istanbul I made my way to the Baths of Lady Huram They were build by the sultan for his favourite wife Roxelana and now houses a carpet shop... you can wander around and explore all the little rooms.... I bought another corn cob and picked up my bags and walked the 10 mins to the Hotel Metropol ...

Visiting Relatives and the Dog Who Stole Undies

... 2 days to be here...so the more time we have together, the better. Before we went to sleep, I had a war with Moxie for a sock and a pair of underpants. It was a silly scene. I wanted to sleep; Moxie thought I was playing. It took some quick thinking and quick movement to accomplish anything. Finally, the dog was outside of the door and the sock and underpants were on my side...and the door was closed. Phew!

Crossroads - Where East Meets West

Istanbul, formerly known as Constantinople, is one of the World's great cities and is the only one that spans the divide between two continents. It has been a place of settlement for well over 5,000 years and today holds a population of nearly 18 million people making it one of the largest cities on Earth. Arriving here from Israel I was impressed by the city's modern transport system and cosmopolitan atmosphere. Compared with Cairo it has a ...
