We had an American breakfast of fried eggs, toast, butter, jam & fruit salad with coffee. We took the moto to Doi Suthep - a big hill on a very long and winding road, like the Hana hwy in Maui.

When we got there we were faced with lots and lots of stairs to climb, right to the very top was a great view and also a temple with a museum. …

We are staying at Libra guesthouse which has hot water! We walked to the market and came back for dinner. A tuc tuc took us to 'The Good View' which was a really nice bar loads of people and a real buzz in the place I had a whiskey with coke and we both sat and watched the live band play and they were very good. They played old and new music Robbie …

I got up early and don't see how after those cocktails. We collected our laundry and then went for breakfast/lunch at a nice little stall on the side of the road.

I was feeling very unwell this morning and I think it's the malaria pills the doctor gave me before I left and said if we were traveling up to northern Thailand I will need to …

It's tiger temple time

A travel blog entry by danandrach

Yesterday we started off the day with a trip to the tiger kingdom. We met up with the Canadians (Maddie, Brandon, Steve, Steve, Matt and Alicia) for breakfast then headed off about 9am in a bus the guesthouse had organised. It cost the whole group only 300baht for the bus for the whole day, bargin.

When we got to the tiger kingdom we had a …

Watch out for the new master thai chefs

A travel blog entry by danandrach

Today we went on an all day thai cookery course with the 'Thai Secret Cooking School' along with a group of nine others. We got picked up at 10am and our first stop was the market where we were introduced to our cooking teacher, May, and taken around the market for our first lesson on the fresh thai produce required to make traditional thai food. …

Great little place and good location

We found Libra Guesthouse in the rough guide book and it seemed to be in good spot so we headed straight there from the train station. It Iooked very clean and pretty modern from the outside and the staff were very nice. They have three different room options starting at 250baht for a fan and cold shower option. They also have aircon and hot water available.

We booked in and was talked through all the trips they had to offer and booked onto a 2 day 1 night trek which went the next day. They have everything on offer in the travel booking centre in the reception area so you can book all your activities direct at the guesthouse.

The rooms are basic but have en-suite. No TV but there is one in the lobby area. Free wifi is also available.

The location is great as it's just on the edge of the moat and within walking distance to all the markets and nearby temples.

Would recommend for a cheap and cheerful place in Chiang Mai and very helpful and friendly staff.

    A gem in Chiang Mai

We checked into Libra after a long haul bus journey from Bangkok. We arrived really early but the owner sent us straight up to bed for a shower and to recover!

The place was spotless, restaurant was really nice and the staff couldn't do enough to help.

We also took one of their treks for two days and it was possibly the very best thing we did in 5 months of travelling.

We are already working out when we'll be back!

Libra Guest House is situated in a great area, right where the main restaurants and bars are. The rooms are large but somewhat uninspiring, had all the necessities like air-con etc. but the wi-fi was a bit dodgy. Nice reception area with books etc. The service was good without blowing us away - generally a good stay.
