Wednesday 4th July Relieved at arriving at Luang Prabang, we got off the boat with our backpacks and proceeded to walk around the town looking for the best reasonably priced place. We checked rooms in several guesthouses before being whisked away on the back of two mopeds still wearing our backpacks... The touts that bought us to their guesthouse didn't have a twin bed so we promised to return if we did not find anything better. Checked two more hotels after that and then settled on a decent ...
Vang Vieng, Lao Peoples Dem Rep bhavishThe 9 hour bus ride from Vientiane to Luang Prabang went great. I whined a sniveled to the ticket counter about my seat assignment. They said there were no other seats available. I must have looked so sad. They gave me the seat next to the driver in the front of the bus! There was some kind of flower ornament, (Wreath?) in the middle of the driver's view. They mercifully took it down before we left the station. It was the biggest and brightest bus in the station, which was otherwise a pretty ...
Luang Prabang, Lao Peoples Dem Rep thomasgillam... organised tour which set us back around 3 pound although entry to the national park was another 1.60 ish. First were a number of rescued bears which were very cute to watch and much more active than in England but after 10 minutes we decided to make our way to the waterfall. There were a number of smaller waterfalls which also had swimming areas around them. Sadly as it was fairly cold we decided against it and took a few photos ...
Luang Prabang, Lao Peoples Dem Rep leehollywood01... Dave from Epsom, a couple of lovely guys from the Midlands and loads more. We all clicked straight away and this made the two day boat trip pass with ease and a lot of laughter. After the first day of sailing, we stopped off for the night at Pek Bang, a small village which relies economically on the tourism of the slow boat trip. Our guest house was fairly shabby but this didn't matter because we were with a bunch of great people and there were seven really ...
Luang Prabang, Lao Peoples Dem Rep holly_ken... have a bath. It was fun to watch; they were even using their trunks to spray each other with water, the wrinkly-skinned jokers. The bridge didn't lead anywhere, so we headed back and rounded the stream, before emerging in an open area at the back of which was a walled-off pool of sorts, into which another few waterfalls flowed from above. We walked around the back, and saw a hug expanse of stream, with small waterfalls on various levels; after taking off our flip-flops ...
Luang Prabang, Lao Peoples Dem Rep alastair6... us that the lady (french owner) who made the cocktails was out and nobody knew how to make a pina colada. Desperate for a cocktail I asked jokingly if I could make it myself. The answer came back as a yes! So, the barman, young and keen to know how to make cocktails took me to the bar and I showed him how to make it. Having never worked in a bar before, I don't really know how to make a pina colada, but with all the ingredients listed on the menu it can't be that hard ...

Also enjoyed the Kao Sawy which can be really spicy but is very tasty and most meals come with sticky rice which has a lot of starch and it sticks together in one big ball, you have to use your hands and roll it into a ball, dip it in the sauce and enjoy!

After a relaxing few days we dicided to set out north to the more remote parts and see about some trekking.

Luang Prabang, Lao Peoples Dem Rep feeandpete... a ginger beard of impressive proportions. John works as a technical advisor for Harley Davidson in Malaysia. With Tattooed John (so-called to distinguish him from our other friend named Jon) was his Thai girlfriend, Rai. Both of them being devout Buddhists, they were touring the wats of Laos on a kind of spiritual holiday. On the boat, which we chartered from the river quay (Rai being able to speak Thai, very similar to Lao, was a great advantage for bargaining purposes), we passed ...
