... spotting tours, but I really thought we were going to see something that night.. we did see tons of fireflies (which reminded me of camp and everyone there as I used to always get really excited when I saw my first firefly of the summer...) and the sky was beautiful. We all dozed in and out of consciousness on the way back, when the americans stopped moaning that it was so late... and collapsed in bed as soon as we got back... about 2.30am...!
Next morning, we got up quite ...
After a bit of a travel day, we arrived in the Pacific beach town of San Juan del Sur. The town somewhat resembles our last Pacific beach town of Acapulco, up in Mexico. Itīs set on a horseshoe shaped bay, with great sand beaches lined with little bars and resturants overlooking the ocean. Itīs just much, much smaller. Over a seafront dinner of fresh fish and cocktails, we came to the conclusin we might just stay here a while.
... that will be, either tomorrow or Thursday 8th.
So I eventually left Casa D’Abram today, Tuesday 6th October on the back of Abe’s bike, sandwiched between Abe and Brad, at 4:30 this morning in the moonlight. We found ourselves riding down in Abe’s words ‘roads like melted chocolate’ after the last couple of nights much needed rain. Abe’s comforting words were “If we start to slide, jump off the back.” Well at least I was ...

The nine of
us got straight off the boat and onto another chicken bus which drove
us slowly along the most awful roads I have encountered in Latin
America so far. The slow island pace of the bus was great for watching
scenery and getting a feel for the island. The island maintained a
strong, laid back, communal and hard working island feel. It was like a

Where do I even begin?! First and for most I have to say thank you sooo much God for blessing me with such breathtakingly divine friendships and relationships over the past few weeks in Nicaragua. It started with me meeting Fernando and Elario in Jaco, Costa Rica about 30 min before my bus back to Puntarenas came. Fernando and Elario are 22 year old guys who live in Panama City, Panama and were out traveling Costa Rica on their 2 week vacation. We all immideatly clicked ...
San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua katie.egeland... head high waves proved a little intimidating for me, and when one of them broke right on my head I discovered what it was like to lose a surfboard, the force of the water ripping the leash clean off my ankle. This, of course, would have to happen the one time I've borrowed a board instead of renting one, but my frenzied front crawl back to shore and the assisstance of a passerby enabled me to retrieve the board before it was damaged on the rocks.

... by these little concoctions that consisted of no "real medicine." Another man had a whole book full of recipes for different illnesses and diseases. He felt that medicine that people received from the clinic worked, but only really fast and for a short period of time. He said that he thinks people need to heal their entire body slowly and completely get rid of the bad things inside your body by these natural remedies. It was also really interesting to listen to these men ...

You can not get close to this island because the spider monkeys living here have been known to hop onto kayaks and steal whatever you might have with you... including your camera!
I am not sure how much longer I will stay here... but I will enjoy every moment- that is for sure!!!

here. Only the bus! Las Penitas is true isolation and beauty. Miles of
undiscovered white sand beaches and really great surfing! To hell with
your computer and TV! Grab a hammock, a drink, and a book and forget
your troubles.

... my little guy did everything except buck me off (although he tried!) just to keep up with him. I was getting bumped around, hauling on the ropes, screaming as loud as I could "Kenny! Stop your horse!" Eventually he stopped, and my horse calmed down some and we made our way back to the group. I knew I was not going to enjoy the next 2 hours very much! But, surprisingly my horse-dog did really good. We rode ...
