... and Tipperary because of the famous wartime song that suggested that it was a long, long way to Tipperary. After days of hard travel a few years ago we did eventually reach Timbuktu so next up was Tipperary... well Tipperary is about an hour and a half north of Cork along a pretty good road. Not particularly remote but I suppose if you're stuck in a trench somewhere in Europe during the dark days of WWI, it would seem a very long way off.
... some tea, juice, and scones and then set out on our own for a stroll around the grounds. We walked around the Japanese Gardens, which were very pretty and peaceful. We then walked up and down the lanes of the paddocks of some of the National Stud's beautiful geldings and mares. Even though it rained fairly steadily, we didn't mind because it was "a fine soft rain" and we pretty much had the entire place to ourselves. It was very nice and the horses were beautiful. We left just after breakfast and went straight to a meeting at Glanbia, which is a dairy producer. They take the milk and make multiple bulk products. Nothing is end consumer. The rest of the group went on a plant tour but I sat that part out because I didn't want to risk a reaction from whey powder in the air or whatever. The visit included lunch as well. We checked into our hotel in Kilkenny after that and walked down to the Kilkenny ...
