... we only had the one wet day and that was in Belfast. As we drove around, our guide played the song "Fourty Shades of Green" – how apt for Ireland.

Our tour traversed the island from Waterford to the west coast, stopping at Killarney, then north to Limerick, Sligo, into Northern Island to Belfast, then back into the Republic to Dublin, for our ferry ride across to Liverpool.

Along the way we tried the Irish traditionals ...

Every now and then, you have a day where you have to take a step back and make sure it's real life.

Today was that day.

I took the bus to Inch beach today and walked along the beach...which is reaaalllly long.

It's not an inch.

I walked past a guy playing hurling and got talking to him.

He asked where I was from, and I said Tasmania.

This is where 90% of people go 'oh ok' and 9% ...

... and then on to Kilkenny. Found a b&b and then explored Kilkenny castle before heading to a pub (Surpise!) for some food and then the best Irish music so far. One bloke on guitar and another on accordian/tin whistle/mouth organ, both on vocals. They played for two and a half hours without a break! In fact, their first six songs ran into one another. Started the morning at Waterford Crystal with a tour of their Waterford Visitor's Centre, factory and museum. A lot of the crystal is now made in their factories in Czechoslovakia and only the smaller pieces are made here. The showroom has some outstanding pieces including the trophies made for the Irish Open, the Irish Derby, the Sondheim Cup, the Ashes etc. You've got to admire the craftsmanship but I'd never buy anything ...

... me plan my next leg as well as offered her take on what I had to see. I arrived in the afternoon, dropped my bags and hit the streets.  Deciding that I wouldn't  have enough time to walk out to St. Canice's Cathedral and see the Kilkenny Castle, I decided on just the castle as it was right in town and just down the street.
