Go Galeras

The next day of travel from Playa Limon to Las Galeras was no easier than the last. I spent three hours crammed into the back of a decaying and dilapidated gua-gua (shuttle bus) with visions of my impending death flashing across my mind. People were getting on and off, grabbing bags of vegetables, luggage and whatnot, chatting easily with each …

Torsdag.

... and well done manner with displays and an audio narrative. It was very interesting. In the end the Spanish arrived and later wiped them out. Native people, just as in North America, had no chance against the weapons and diseases of the invaders. Fortunately much is known about their culture and artifacts remain. We enjoyed this stop.

We traveled back towards the city and made our last stop at Puerto Bahia Condominiums. I’m not sure what this stop ...

... we took it easy, but did manage a game of beach twister in the evening. I had the most incredible time, but returned to the sala de emergencias this morning to the usual **** which Domincans consider 'an emergency'.

Caught a glimpse of the news yesterday and it says that a hurricane is heading our way. Perhaps the disaster medicine section of my elective may begin....

... Tina kindly pointed out she could see my scalp now my hair was thinning and I would put suncream on it, great, yet another reminder of middle age!

We had a nice sail away then decided to watch a film and in the cinema area saw water for
elephants which was good but we got to dinner late as it was closing so got the dregs of the buffet. We swapped out our film for a new one but fell asleep watching it. Still ...

La Rancheta was a wonderful place to stay, with spacious bungalows constructed in a jungle garden setting. The owner, Ron and his wife were incredibly hospitable and helpful.

After seeing our first booking, and turned that down. Ronald welcomed us with open hands to his La Rancheta. Wonderful place where you feel that Ronald and his family is happy to have you there and takes good care of you. The breakfast was amazing, and the swimmingpool with natural flowing water was a delight. We strongly recomend it!
