... now. I imagine that after a time they will all begin to feel like extended family given the amount of work we are having done and the time in which it takes to finish it.

I’ve realized that I don’t yet know what it’s like to ‘live’ in San Miguel. I’ve been so busy buying, designing, and making decisions that I still have no idea what real life here is like. I’m eager ...

San Miguel - a feast for the eyes.

... the large tourist and expat population - but not far away, people are living in cardboard shacks. Still, the town has a highly developed network of agencies that assist those in need, and I'm sure that employment and income must be positively impacted by all the Gringos. Many of the expats that I've met have been here for more than ten years. They take a vital interest in the welfare of the communty at large and most of them do considerably long hours of ...

How it all began

... overseas trips and 18 hour days had taken a toll on my workaholic husband. For the past two years I’d seen articles about a colonial city smack-dab in the middle of Mexico called San Miguel de Allende that boasts beautiful architecture, a love of the arts and amazing food, all with the promise of impossible blue skies. I suggest San Miguel to Kevin and we decide to spend 10 days there over the Easter holiday. I remember my initial impressions weren’ ...

The Great Experiment

... odd things in my bags and feel a bit silly as I’m moving bake ware and wooden spoons from one bag to another. My once orderly bags are now a tangle of clothing, electronics and kitchen essentials and I realize that in the end all I really care about is that my bottle of fish sauce arrives intact. What would life be without my Masmum Curry? I don’t think I’m ready to find out.

... and penne pasta and I had veal scaloppini with three different mushrooms in a sauce. We had a desert of chocolate ice cream to pass around and we were still stunned by the price which was half of what it would have cost up in the Bay Area and a third of what it cost Sheila and I in Lake Como last summer.

The walk home was refreshing and we had rain for the first time, sprinkles during the late afternoon and a down pour during the night.

... badly. The two bedroom, corner, 1227 sq. feet, luxury condo we were looking at sold for $244,000 U.S. Being SMA I expected the price to be higher. Our last morning in San Miguel

... up the sky to a bright white that's when it calls into awakening the smaller, but no less important, birds. And they sing. They sing the day awake. They sing as if they sing together but as soloists only interested in their own song. All this kerfuffle wakes up the cars and the trucks and the buses. And yet the sun has not even peaked over the horizon. The sky starts ...

What you see in San Miguel

... have free snacks or wine, sometimes you like the art, sometimes you meet really interesting people. We walk up to the main area, visit a gallery, shop a bit, sit in the Jardin and look at the lighted Parroquia (church) and people watch. Maybe we stop for something to eat. Maybe we come home and fix something. Since lunch is at 2 or so, the art and the sightseeing fit in with a late supper. Parque Juarez is fairly close by and ...

Merry Christmas!...and Happy New Year!!

... as events unfold.

December 26th - the "botanical garden". Websters defines botancial garden as "a garden with greenhouses for the culture, study, and exhibition of special plants". Having grown up next to the South Coast Botanical Garden, I was familiar with this definition and had certain expectations. We visted the local botancial garden today. It was not an unpleasant experience, but I'm not sure it rates "botanical garden" status ...
