... and impale me. The thought makes me smile.

This morning we needed to make a decision on the tile for inside the fireplace. I am still too weak to climb the stairs so Moises brings the tiles to me and as I sit in bed he, Kevin and I discuss and decide on the pattern we want. Kevin makes a joke likening me to Marie Antoinette, lying in bed while asking my servants to do my bidding. “Let them eat cake ...

San Miguel - a feast for the eyes.

... to read, as well as a local discussion group, and another gathering for practising my (minimal) Spanish. The latter wasn't much fun as we all sat around a big table and could only speak to the people near to us - and my people (from Ontario) knew even less Spanish than I did. Also, I realised that I really needed to hit the books if I wanted to have even an idea of some basic vocab and grammar.

The weather that had been so bitterly cold at first, became ...

... about it. I’ve always thought my in-laws are a little crazy but this solidified my opinion. They actually agreed to pay for half of it, sight unseen, in a city they’ve never been to before. Our dream to have a multigenerational family retreat in a land of abundant sunshine was about to become reality.

The Great Experiment

... the plane do I begin to feel excited. This is the norm for me. I tend to go through the actions of preparing for a trip with very little emotion, taking care of the tasks at hand; making sure no detail has been forgotten. But as the engines of the jet start to speed up that slow smile spreads across my face and the ‘butterflies’ of giddiness begin to rise in my stomach. I’m on vacation. But this is no ...

... into the back of a pickup. We stopped at the Bonaza Market on the way back to complete our restock of stores and walked home.

Sheila decided to cook the chicken she purchased at the Mercado and Melinda and Bob prepared their talapia that came from the Mecado and we enjoyed drinks on the upper terrace prior to dinner. It was an enjoyable and relaxing evening.

Getting ready to leave for Guanajuato tomorrow

... basically not a road at all in parts. If any readers are interested in learning Spanish, this is the place to do it. Perfect climate, beautiful city, and lots of choice for different formats of classes. The trailer park here has lots of dead grass, with burrs around the edges that got into the dogs fur. It took literally hours to rake them all out. Sand would have been better, at least it just falls out. Let's see as we head towards the West coast.

Spending time in Colonia San Antonio

... cannot walk well. The streets are mainly cobblestones, with whatever "pointy side" they have in the up position. There are sidewalks, but there are poles and guy wires and they get very narrow sometimes. We hop on and off the sidewalk dozens of times on our walks. The "Jardin" and "Centro" are on high ground, UP from many neighborhoods including San Antonio. We have it easy compared to many areas. We even have a bus a few short ...

The sun's rays began to shine through the forest canopy, and as if having drunk an elixer of life, the butterflies began to stir with newly obsorbed energy.
