Being a knight at a Castle!

One day I went to Chateauneuf. This castle was built in the 12th century. That means it's 800 years old. But some of it had to be rebuilt 500 years ago.

This is a castle that knights used to live in.

I went to Chateauneuf with Bosch and Ardern, who are my friends, to do a knights workshop. It was all in French, but they speak French and English so they could translate for me.

First we got into our knight's costume. It was ...

On our way back to Switzerland, we stayed in the capital of Burgundy, the city of Beaune. We rode about 495 kms in total this day, with mostly highway riding.

We went into the city center for a glass of wine and dinner. The centre is quite interesting, with many wine bars and restaurants.

The wine we had was good, but we needed more time to really get an appreciation of the local wines.

We had left Périguex early as we had a long ride of almost 500 km, and were using the main roads. In the Burgundy region, we started to take the secondary roads and we came along the side of the Canal du Centre and stopped to see one of the locks in operation.

More information about the canal can be found at this link: entre_(France)

... at a Boulangerie(Bakers) on the way out of town and had a lovely baguette sandwich.

Interesting, we saw a boat on the the river called Le Boat, as the name is in English (French word would be Bateau).

After a short break we headed off to Clermon-Ferrand.

Ten days is not enough - pour moi!

... building itself is a work of art, and the treasures housed inside are priceless. The world's most famous impressionists are shown here and we were lucky to see a temporary exhibition of Van Gogh, so many of the pictures are familiar, but when one sees the originals there is a special life in them.

Having whetted our appetite for Monet, we went to see his masterpieces at L'Orangerie where he painted eight enormous pictures of the famous ...
