Eventually getting my **** back in to gear, I left Kasar Devi and flagged down a car heading back to Almora, the driver taking an interesting route, getting lost on the way. This would prove to be the shape of things to come today, as I attempted to get to Ramnagar, a town halfway between Almora and my next destination, Rishikesh. Hopping in to another jeep, I got in to Ranikhet, a small hill town which reminded me a lot of Darjeeling, except smaller and with a large military presence ...

... It was a border that relatively few people used and, as a result, the road there was in a pretty dire state. Bring on the six hour journey! Trying to find the bus station the next morning, I bumped in to one of the drivers from the day before, who pointed out a bus that had already left, travelling down the road which was apparently headed to Mahendranagar. Initially we tried to get on the cable car but apparently all seats for the day were sold so had ...

Up early for 8 hour drive to Nainital and luckily it was raining so we felt as though it was a good day to travel on. The journey was pretty uneventful and we made good time arriving at 3pm after meandering up the winding switchback roads to the hill resort that sits at 1938m. The weather had cleared up and the evening sun looked beautiful against the steep forested valleys and green volcanic lake (Naini) – ...

... the ATMs in Ramnagar just ten miles down the road might work. “No problem! We are taking the lady to Ramnagar ATMs for 200 rupees.” And that was it. An hour later, Judith returned triumphant.

The catalogue arrived that evening, and the follwing morning, the entire staff of the UTDC arrived at our apartment for the fitting. It fitted perfectly. To save the space in our luggage the suit and kurti are to be posted to England. I hope we see them ...
