Beach time!!

After a long drive we arrived at the beach although it really wasnt very relaxing!!!! The beach was filled with children and women wanting to sell you bracelets, give you massages and manicures!!

11th - Spent all day on a trip to the national Park which meant a rather long and uncomfortable journey on a boat (which made my bum numb ...

... tree, over rough ground, wearing flip flops. And it was raining.
The inevitable happened. The tree fell right where we had all been stood only moments before but somehow we were all alive! After my good deed I headed back to Phnom Penh before leaving again for Battambang.

Battambang is described by the guide book as a "Great example of a French Colonial Town". My first impression was that of a shithole. It seemed that the Lonely Planet were pretty much ...

Beaches and beer..

... and ended up having a good old night, meeting backpackers from all over.
As time goes on I decide to have a chat with a couple of the fire guys (as Im pretty impressed by some of the stuff they pull off. Jelous might be a better word!) and pick up one of the sticks and start spinning it. Turns out its a bit harder than spinning a pool stick back home. But hey, when in rome. One of the guys is nice enough to give me a lesson in how to spin ...

... massages = very creepy. Alice proved to be very unsuccesful at saying no to the young children and now has braclets to prove it. Amber however, unsurprisingly maybe, doesn't have any!!
Stayed on the beach all night drinking 35p beer and playing cards. Built a human pyramid.

Next day we were up early to take a boat trip around the islands. Tried to snorkel but the masks were appaling, leaky and scratched. Only Amber ...

a lazy kind of beach

... gecko jumped from a roof rafter ONTO our mosquito net to try to catch a moth, while we were inside playing cards! our porch had 2 hammocks, so we could both read, relax and enjoy the spectacular scenery. it was also really wonderful to be able to walk out to the ocean without having to go through anyone else's space. the common area/restaurant had plenty of comfy chairs and hammocks too, fairly tasty food, lots of games to play, and great ...

... had been some really dark clouds hanging around, but they have blown over and we did not get stuck in the rain today. We stopped at the mini mart next door. They have some great North American snacks - chocolate bars, chips and a huge variety of pop - baked Lays, multi-grain tortillas, diet Dr Pepper, Snickers,... It is incredible! I was even able to find sugar free, Pokka, oolong iced tea. It was dark when we arrived back at our place, but we were still in time for Happy ...

We hadnt booked anywhere to say so we got dropped off at Serendipity beach the so called Backpackers haven for accomodation. we found somewhere quickly even though its was slightly over budget. Sucked in to Sihanoukville

... the reception about 5 times "9am, right?" and the funny little Cambodian dude who worked there (really funny guy) said "yes, 9am"...but then at 8am he comes barging in to my room without knocking (note to self: lock your door), asking why I am not ready to go! So I packed in a rush and got ready to go in about 10 minutes. Not the best way to wake up. But it gets worse...after the worse breakfast ever, we are about to get on the boat, and I go to pull out my camera to ...
