To be honest, Nepal was more attractive than India to me, but I visited India 5 years earlier than Nepal, because there are more convenient flights to India than Nepal. Unfortunately, my stay was very short this time and so I didn't go trekking at all. If you go to the base camp of Mt Everest, it takes two weeks! Maybe I should have taken two week holidays....

We arrived into Kathmandu Monday afternoon and was welcomed at the airport by Ali from Khangsar Guest House. We experienced the craziness of Kathmandu traffic on the way into Thamel, which took about 20-30 minutes - I don't think there are actually road rules but everyone sure knows how to use a horn! We settled into our small, …

Everest Base Camp, Take 2

A travel blog entry by devinandkris

Yep, we're still in Kathmandu. So our flight to Lukla on Wednesday morning got cancelled, which isn't exactly a rare occurrence. I believe the Lukla airport is visual-only, and located on the side of a mountain at altitude, meaning that conditions have to be pretty good for the airport to stay open. If it's foggy or cloudy or snowing or raining or …

A fortnight of trekking awaits us...

We are currently in Kathmandu, and just wanted to write a quick note, since we are about to go off the grid for 14 days. On Wednesday morning, we are flying to Lukla to begin our trek to Everest Base Camp! We landed in Kathmandu on Saturday night, and have spent the last couple of days getting things in order and doing some shopping. We had to buy …

Project phase

A travel blog entry by peter-marian

We have arrived back in Kathmandu from Pokhera and the treking phase and settled back in to the Khangsar guest house where we stayed earlier. We are now into our project phase where we are decorating a classroom block at the Goldhunga school painting the inside white and the outside green. On Wednesday afternoon we caused havoc and chaos when we …

The room we had was a corner room which had two big lovely windows facing outwards. The room itself was really run down but clean and the bed had crispy clean sheets. Great location just south of the main Thamel tourist hub.

Nice Hotel But Stay Away from Rajendra

It was the first guesthouse I stayed in Nepal and in my RTW trip. I didn't know what to expect but it had the basic amenties like private bathroom with hot shower, a clean bed and a fan. Breakfast wasn't included although written on their website. It wasn't a big deal though but the real problem was Rajendra, the manager. He is one of the most money-minded, dishonest people I've evet met. Since the first day I arrived, he tried to sell me overpriced tours, exchanged my dollars in a lower rate and under his fake smile and kindness, he was just trying to take as much as money he could from me. After I returned from his tour (%50 more expensive than elsewhere in town), I was supposed to stay 2 nights more at this GH (already paid), but he said the GH was full now so he sent me to another guesthouse which turned out to be half cheaper in the end -so he could save a couple of dollars. Even the bus ticket to Pokhara he sold me was %40 more expensive. I'm so ripped off by him. My advice to you, just stay off him and you'll be ok.
