... returned they found the school, houses and crops had been destroyed. The Contra attacked because Lagartillo was a cooperative and a symbol of socialism. The mother and wife of the slain woman and her father, is the 65 year old matriarch of the village and now only wears trousers, because for years she had to sleep in her clothes in case she had to escape and make a run for it and trousers were / are easier to run in than skirts. So she no longer owns any skirts

... live music on Friday and Saturday nights playing salsa music and a largely Nicaraguan crowd. We got some beers and settled in to watch the swinging hips and flying feet of the salsa dancers, deftly avoiding actually having to do any dancing ourselves! One particular man took a liking to Alan and starting putting his hand on his ****** and making some suggestive comments to him. Alan then scuttled over to where I was and made me stand close by him for the rest of the ...
Granada, Nicaragua mardow... went off. Not much chat at the start let me tell you. We walked along the road for about thirty minutes, stopping briefly for a rain shower that had the two boys standing under a tree with umbrellas!! Apparently Isrealis donīt really like the rain. We hiked into the jungle along a rocky path and reached ībase campī about an hour later. Base camp was nothing more than four poles in the ground with some banana leaves thrown over the top. The guy who was ...
Granada, Nicaragua doireann_brian... course, us participants had no real idea of any of these goings on as we were concentrating on moving quite fast away from where the bulls were, though at the last bearable moment of course! Occasionaly we would catch word that someone had been tossed assunder or whatever, but without actually bearing witness to it first hand it was difficult to put in perspective the actual degree of danger to our lives. That isn't to say that there weren't moments when I was somewhat ...
Granada, Nicaragua roryd... Ometepe island.
The lake looks good, too bad is so full of houses. In one of hte islets (one of hte smaller ones) they keep a bunch of monkeys. It seems that people like to get near and feed them with bread. The monkeys are so used to get food from the boats that turn aggressive if they're not fed. Instead of a attraction i thought of it as cruel. Specially when i saw one of the monkeys ...
... the time. During the night, I talked a lot with my host mom about
her experiences during both wars. She definitely has some amazing
stories, since this place was the sight of many brutal hand to hand
fighting during the revolution and civil war. National Guard members
didnīt care who they killed, and itīs easy to see why people had such a
hatred for them.
Today I started my first day of work. Itīs about a 25 minute walk from ...
... migh not have enough to eat. If I do go, I support the business of riding on a horse drawn cart with tourists. PFffff difficult. And my daughter and I decide not to do it. This is complete nonsens because the day after I go to Pure, a welness center just a few blocks away from the hotel where I go for a Reiki session. I love it and it really does a lot of good to me but I can't help feeling stupid, working on my wellbeing while so many people are hungry out there.
... dictatorship the country has experienced. (What I could gather from the spanish speaking guide anyway) A political prison with very disturbing stories and a small museum telling of the uprising that happened in Masaya. So much war and unrest in recent years that the people here are still trying to recover from, add to that the poverty that ...
... the streets of Managua. These were liberals protesting the recent election of Alexis Arguello, former welterweight boxing champion, as mayor of the capital city, Managua. Two days ago, we watched on television as violent street protests erupted in the streets of Nindiri'. This time it was the FSLN protesting the election of a liberal to the mayoral seat in Nindiri', which is located between Managua and Masaya. They claimed election fraud. This march was quite ...
