I think that, looking back on it, I don't regret this trip. If nothing else it taught me not to accept boat trips from strangers in the street, something I should probably have known anyway, but thanks to the 5 hours of back-destroying, ever-reducing in size bus travel, I now am totally and thoroughly aware of. ... a Spanish tapas place for an aperitif before heading to The Alley for dinner. We learned about this place on Trip Advisor. The owner is from Austria and has been in Yangshuo for about 10 years. We had a god chat with him and enjoyed a nice dinner. Town had really come alive in the later evening and walking about gave us a real chance to take it in. Universally it seems everyone just wants a good life and to have some fun. We sure are joining in. ...

    Free Tibet

... overnight train (to be spoken about later). Chengdu is a city of around four million people so not notably large by Chinese standards but certainly one that is putting itself on the map. That posh bloke who lives in downing street happened to be there at the same time as us. I contemplated finding him and throwing an egg right in his gob but figured I'd be beaten by Chinese police and sacked from my job in the UK. Chengdu is located ...
