... of activity but the kitchen only opens at 8.30! Went to the Guggenheim by metro yesterday. Both quite prepared not to like it but it was very impressive. Both the building and some of the installations (Paul as usual not that impressed with modern art, but did like the engineering sculptures). The Guggenheim did manage to loose my raincoat for an hour though. And as I could not remember any brand name (Warehouse, what did I expect?) colour, or what was ...

... girders. It was very spacious and overlooked a bustling street right opposite the public library. It was perfect. Maria gave us some restaurant recommendations, one of which specialized in chipirones (txiporones en su tinta or squid cooked in their own ink. They were great. Of course, Judy opted for a non-fish dish which was equally good. As we stepped into the restaurant, about six gentlemen at the bar broke out in song (not for us) and sang about 6 songs ...

... I was treated with respect as soon as I walked into the door. The owners were a lovely couple who were happy to see a new face. They took the opportunity to teach me some Basque and make some great restaurant suggestions.

Instead of tapas bars in Bilbao, there are pintxos bars. Pintxos are deceptive. They are small and usually attached to a piece of bread, like a slice of baguette, with a skewer. Some examples of pintxos are: mini hamburguesas, tuna salad with ...

... not the cafes and gelaterias!
I went to two gelato places! I tried a whole bunch of exotic flavors to add to
my list. I had Crema Catalina, Donuts (it tasted just like donuts!), Salmon
(blegh!), Bubblegum, Mojitos, Waffles with chocolate, Rose Pedals with
Cinnamon, Violets (the flower), Coca Cola & Red wine, and the last two,
Squid ink and Foie Gras were the two most repulsive flavors I have ever tasted.
But at least now I can include them on my list! ...
