... even though somewhat lacking in the quality of the European leagues and the Premiership it is always entertaining. Barueri went one up on a penalty - no mean feat with 40,000 people from the Favellas jeering him as he took it. With about 15 minutes to go Flamengo equalised and I got a taster of what this place would be like if packed to the rafters and a local derby was being played. The noise and atmosphere was simply astounding - even ...

Rio de Janeiro

... Miriam had no idea where I was. She went to baggage reclaim and there was no sign of me and the came back. Just 5 minutes on Brazilian soil and we managed to get seperated. It was a bloody relief to see her! I think she was sweating more than I was. Anyways, our arranged lift was there and we drove across central Rio de Jainero to get to our hostel. The guys car was a shambles! I sat in the front but this guy didnt even have a window on the ...

Carnival came down to Town today

... a hamburger. An absolutely cracking night - my favourite night of the Carnival. If you let your proverbial hair down and jump in with the locals, it´s really good fun. The next evening I went to the Sambodromo (a stadium constructed entirely for carnival - basically a street with stands on either side) where the touristy TV parade is held. This is what you see back home but its not what Caarnival is really about (Nowhere else in Brazil but Rio - its why Rio´s carnival ...

Carnaval!

... the temperature was way over 30 degrees. It was so hot I couldn't sleep, despite being completely exhausted. After 3 hours we stopped at a service station and they managed to get the air conditioning working again for the last 2-3 hours of the trip to Sao Paulo. The cameraderie on the bus was unique and unexpected. I don't know if it was because of the breakdown or because of the personalities of my fellow passengers, but it was a little surreal. When we got to Sao Paulo, I was ...

Rio De Janerio Day 3

David and I took off on public buseses today to go and visit the Jesus Christ monument as you do here in Rio we got some great photos of the area with the minibus option up the hill rather than the train gives you far better photo options. We then proceeded to ride the cable car up to Sugar loaf mountains. It hard not to be impressed with the stunning views and landscape this city has.

Getting our asses handed to us

... and at 6 our dance class starts. Were going to do La dança do salao. I dont really know what exactly it is, but its a blend of samba and other brazilian dances. I think it~ll be fun. It may be our only exposure to brazilian music, so I~m looking forward to it. Tomorrow we catch a flight to Iguazu falls in the southern tip of Brazil. Its supposed to be colder there, but it~ll be gorgeous. Someone once said that there is no where else in the world ...

the universal language of 50 cent

... played in the water and in general just soaked up some gorgeous sun. On our way back we saw a doped up surfer guy infront of a shop so we walked in. He was a surfing instructor and we scheduled our class for tomorrow!! We were having so much trouble getting a hold of the guy we knew about so this worked out better. We came back from the beach and quickly got ready for the futbol match. The match sucked. I mean ok it didnt suck, the experience was pretty cool and ...

American Airlines is grraaaaand

... I loved the experience.. people boo´d and hissed when they were ****** they showed all sorts of emotion it was just cool. I really think Americans are prudes in all ways when compared to Brazilians. I decided I want to be Brazilian. I mean i love being Indian and American but DAMN these Brazilian girls sure know how to carry themselves. I mean everyone has this sense of self confidence and ...

Buenos Dias South America

... on it seemed even more confussing that we were now in a city which absolutley had to be European. With the people speaking Spanish, looking and behaving italian and the buildings like some of the most beatiful in Eastern Europe it was the strangest of culture shocks, and we instantly felt at home. It took a while to adapt to the language and the fact that I was one of the only blonde people around, but other than that we settled in to the Argentinian way of life very quickly. By ...
