... around the crater, but I was happy with the first crater point - I wanted to make sure I had a quick getaway if I needed it. It is obviously dormant at the moment, but there was wafts of smoke coming out which is a bit uncomfortable. We really enjoyed the experience then went back down on the bus and got dropped outside the "dig" site and we got our maps and went into the ancient town of Pompei.
