The rain woke us up this morning at about 8 with the realisation that we had to pack the tent away so that was a slightly annoying start to the day however everyone was very well organised this morning and we were all packed up and ready to go at 9.30. The girls played some last minute card games with Megan and Kate and we had a last yak with Ron and Heidi and then we started saying our goodbyes which took the girls quite a while as they had to negotiate various group ...

Saturday afternoon was spent visiting the Topography of Terrors (a museum dedicated to the holocaust which I would only recommend going to if you can handle very graphic and depressing photos ...

... I knew we were at the border when everyone started looking like they were fresh out of the sound of music. Everyone gave their passports and it was all good until they searched 2 Lithuanian looking men. They took their passports with them off the bus and into their little van to do more investigation I guess. They came back on and pulled them off the bus and told the bus driver to shut the doors. They are now standing outside my window and Hansel ...

... in German was a challenge, but we tried our best. After the service, a couple men came up to us to tell us that they were related to us as well! Such a friendly, friendly people and church. I am so proud that our ancestors came from this community. We went to Derene's house afterward to have coffee, cookies and chat some more. We met Dennis DeVries, Derene (Masselink)'s son, who reminded us of our cousins the Van ...
