Breathtaking scenery!!

Today was simply breathtaking in terms of the scenery. It was out of this world and I hated the fact that I felt asleep for 1 hour on the bus!!! Some guy tried to charge us 30Rps for our luggage but I refused again as we'd paid for the ticket already - He had a moan saying he’d take my luggage off the bus so I told him to do so and I’d keep it with me but he just walk away!

The bus journey was about 11 hours today. We were 80% of the time 2 yards away from the cliff and we ...

Simply beautiful

I had such a good night sleep last night although it was a bit cold in the room. I didn't have anything planned in particular so I went to the café around the corner to get internet access and found out what there was to do in Kathmandu. They offered to help in the Hotel but of course they are trying to sell their packages so what I really needed to do was to go the Tourist Information Centre.

First I decided to head to the Old Town and the receptionist told me which way to go. On my w...

Memorable

Oh Kathmandu! It could use a good scrub and some air freshener, but it was a necessary stop on our Nepal travels. This country capital of approx. half a million sits in a Himalayan valley at 4,450 feet, which makes its incoming and outgoing highway (yes, just one!) a bumpy, dangerous, and slow adventure. The city streets were old, very old. Every corner we turned produced a new sight to gawk at. Temples, shrines, and ancient pagodas were nestled in every nook and cranny of the old city. One d...

Khumbu Trekking Part 1: Lukla to Gorak Shep

Tashi Delek to all (that's hello in Tibetan/Sherpa)! Writing this after enjoying our first non-walking day for two weeks. Good to get back to Kathmandu's tourist ghetto (despite the noise, pollution and traffic!) and all its creature comforts - hot showers, beer and decent steak - after a fantastic but pretty tough trek in the Khumbu region; home to the Big Daddy, Everest / Sagamartha and a bunch of other 6- 7- and 8000 meter peaks. Compared to our previous trek in the Annapurna, Khumbu was v...
