      In Naxos Town today all the primary and secondary school children marched and drummed their way to a Cenotaph and laid wreaths. Tomorrow is a public holiday and the whole town celebrates.

      ... gorgeous vistas, beaches, and more great Greek cuisine. We rented a car for one day but could easily have filled another day with a 4x4. I was surprised by the arid landscape beyond the fertile valley of the interior, yet this is an island with more green space than others in the Cyclades. I suppose I associate islands (Vancouver Island, Ireland) with verdure but such is not the case in Greece.

      It's hard to describe Ios. The night actually begins down at the beach around 430/5 pm and eventually moves up the hill to town. It's incredibly small with very narrow streets.
