Today Gitta and Paula drove us over the big Afsluitdyke! I've been wanting to see this! We stopped at the monument and took in the views. There is a monument to the man Lely who was behind the dyke being built. The dyke is 7m above average sea level and about 30km long. Quite a lot of people driving and cycling across today. We stopped a bit further along to have our lunch on the dyke. Very nice. Next a drive down through Friesland to ...

Brian was fascinated by all the boats. We had the ...

A nice sleep in today followed by a visit to the nearby Golden Angel Mill. Piet and Lisbeth took us in the car. Fantastic to see them change the sails to face the wind and see it working from the inside. A family BBQ at Piet and Ans tonight with Liesbeth and Maike and families. Followed by party fireworks care of ...

We went on the boat with Piet and Ans and Liesbeth to the beautiful old town/city of Alkmaar. The trip was about 1 hour by boat. We passed through a lock and travelled along the big canal - passed a couple of old wind mills, plenty of boats, some floating houses on the side of the canal in one part too. In Alkmaar we saw the traditional way of moving the cheese rounds with 2 men and a ...
