... br> So, on to Montevideo. Seems to me that the place may have gotten a bad rap. The general feeling seemed to be that there was nothing much to see in the city. I don't know if that is true as we didn't see the place, but rather drove to an estancia on the outskirts of town. While one can't see much from a bus window, Montevideo appeared to be a rather typical South American city, much in disrepair and needing maintenance, especially ...

Had a good sleep, had breakfast, bit of a sunbathe then got ready for trip out at 12.30. We also had a ride out into the countryside, where it was sparsely populated, with little ramshackle communities.Again, we were surprised by the relative poverty we saw. Amazed that nothing was happening in a capital city of over a million we decided the ...

... money with exchanging. I decided to walk around a bit and compare the exchange rates for the Argentine peso in hopes that we would find a decent rate. The best rate we found was 1 = 1.60 so I decided to take the hit and exchange. I lost about $7 in the process which was better then losing $15. After exchanging money, my friend and I decided it was time to eat. We heard of a famous restaurant called "La Pasiva" and thankfully it was within walking distance! As we walked over there, ...

Usually I'm not a fan of big cities but there's are exception to every rule, and we thoroughly enjoyed our week stay in Montevideo. As we arrived at the airport we could instantly we feel the calm relaxed atmosphere that Uruguay is so known for. The airport itself is very small compared to any other international airport we have been to and the people are very friendly and helpful. Customs was a breeze and we picked up our bags and were outside ...
