... delighted to arrive at a real life ski jumping slope. The slope is moosive and covered in astro-turf. We took the chair lift up and watched guys aged between around 13 and 35 catapult themselves off a cliff and into the abyss, with one mistake certain to either leave them dead or severely injured. Crazy crazy Polish chaps, I sat watching them for some time, mouth wide open, with my head on a swivel like a Wimbledon final. The highest peak of the Tatras mountains is almost ...

... the view for the picnic.
Finally hit the UNESCO world site, the Debno church, 10 years oldèr than the church at Lopuszna, and the lady who minds it was on lunch break. An entire busload of people came by and she was still on break, how dare she!! And so we made it up the hill where I ...

... I've ever seen a sign marking a 20% grade before. As a total chicken on downhills, my rims were smoking hot by the time I reached the river. But reached it I did. This was our first riding day and we had it all -- beautiful farmland views, wooded mountainsides, carved wooden huts out of an old fairy tale, paved roads, stony dirt roads climbing hills behind farm towns, and the kindness of strangers -- we stood under ...

... I had to leave Briony behind, as she was dead weight with one of our companions and head for the summit! The 90 minute run up the mountain side was well worth the view of the lake. One of the reasons we chose this option was because it was named in the top 5 lakes across the world. After seeing it, it is not hard to see why. Not too long after I arrive briony rocks up and we walk down to the bank of the water and we start to strip down to our togs. The lake is surrounded by tourists and ...
