We then stayed on outskirts of Arthur's Pass, which is the mountainous alpine road which crosses the spine of the country. We ended our time in Sydney in the place where it all began for us - Sydney. Again we were up and ready quite early, as both of us were keen to get to Christchurch as soon as possible.

We retraced our steps back to the turn-off, and then headed towards Lake Tekapo, and some of the attractive towns between the mountains and Christchurch.

Lake Tekapo was just as beautiful as the lake we'd enjoyed near Mt Cook, but we kept driving past, only stopping for a quick photo ...
