      ... by a brown woodpecker creeping up one of the garden trees, a magpie robin, which really is colored like a magpie, but the same shape as a cartoon robin, only twice the size.       ... day, like a good kiwi, I took myself to the beach (the nearest "nice" beach was at Cherai, a 30 min bus ride north). I ate fish, drank cold beer, read my book and went swimming.       ... in Christmas lights. Quite impressive! Furthermore, there are two special days. Friday is the day off and we went to the most southern point if India where the three oceans meet: Kanyakumari. Great trip and it was nice to be out of the Ashram for a day.       ... Officer's Institute for drinks and dinner, all very grand with their wives smartly dressed in their saris and lots of waiter everywhere, approximately 25 people went from the ship. There were presentations from us to them and to the ship. The dress code was shirt with collar, trousers and shoes.
