Okay, I know I've been boring. I'm sorry! Basically I've been trying to get used to the bits and pieces of university before embarking on significant journeys. Can't blame me for that :P There have been the odd trips to random castles etc but I have no interest in random small town castles, lived in the Isle of Man for WAY too long to be interested in them! Hoping for a trip down ...
Ellon, Scotland, United Kingdom kilgiraffe... for a week or two would be fun, but who would really benefit from it? So I decided to use the time I have to better the world community and do some volunteer work. That sounds exceptionally cheesy, but I would much rather be helping out the long-term development in a country I have significant interest in than just frolick on a beach drinking way too much alcohol.
I had researched some volunteer gigs previously, just for loose ideas for ...
A month in and no activity? What's going on, Sarah?
WELL.
Moved in OK, Freshers week was a blast, but I just haven't quite gotten to the exploring part yet. Made a trip down to the beach, a few around town.. And it's actually quite nice here. It's cold yes, but it's a fairly quiet city. Not too big but not too isolated.
However uni [the evil *******s] have decided to give ...
Well I have finally begun my journey!!! It seemed like it would never actually happen, but as I boarded that plane reality began to sink in....As we all know, i have no idea when Ill be home, where ill go next, what Ill see or who Ill be spending time with....which makes it so much more exciting for me. Now i have only been here for half a day and have yet to settle, but once that ...
Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom courtneynew... most things are labelled in arabic there. I'll let you know if it really helps or just extra deadweight when I get there. I shaved my hair off last night too(with the dodgy aid of the reflective side of a cd-rom) so I could do without hair gel or shampoo.
To be honest I haven't really been excited about the trip till last night when I did a little more research on where I'm going. Now its all come in a rush and I wish I was leaving today instead!
... I'll be back in Tucson by 8:35 p.m. I've drawn some conclusions from my trip to Scotland. First, it's not as foreign as I expected. Once you get over the accent and the fact that they drive on the other side of the road here, it's easy to forget that you're abroad. The day-to-day life seems very similar to that in any town of a similar size in the U.S.
Even so, there are a few things I've liked about Aberdeen ...
... I cannot tell you if he was lying or not. I will tell you this: I marched straight to the trash with my leftovers while saying "if you have money for alcohol, you have money to eat." The Scots and their kilted 'balls of steel' are starting to have an effect on me, it seems.
2. Some members of our trip don't believe in showers. Leading by example not working. Need help ASAP.
Headed to Inverness to track down Nessie...I brought a small net, a ziplock baggie, and a ...
... some broken sleep on the flight to London and then 6 hours twiddling my thumbs in Heathrow then I was off on my way to Aberdeen... 12 hours later than planned but at least I was heading home to be with Mum and Dad! They were waiting patiently for me at the airport and we headed home in the freezing cold (at least that's what it felt like after leaving Perth in 35 degree heat!) to relax, catch up and get ourselves ready for heading to Edinburgh for the first part of our holiday!
Aberdeen, United Kingdom markgemmell... side gate. On the side of the house was another little garden, with more trees. And to the front lay a lily pond, flower beds with poppies blooming and a sundial that I checked the time, both that evening and the following morning and found it accurate to 15 minutes or so. The front looked out over the road to the fence where there grew daffodils ( not in bloom in summer ), fields beyond, and on the horizon, a view of Liverpool skyline, the cathedral if the day was ...
Aberdeen, United Kingdom martess... evening I wandered across town to hear some local musos at an acoustic night. Last night I stayed in while the others drove to Manchester (about two hours) to hear the Dave Matthews Band (happy to miss it). Tonight they've gone to a local ball. I couldn't afford the £25 ticket and besides, I don't have anything to wear. So I'm at home (Cinderella), with the benefit of a good bottle of red wine, a roast of NZ lamb in the oven, and plans ...
