With our updated passports and new visas in hand, we're on the final countdown. T-minus ~48 hours.

I'm feeling thankful that British Airways has added a direct flight from Austin to Heathrow...that will save us a few hours of a long trip. We leave out of Austin at 4:10pm on 6/11 and arrive London the next morning at 9:25am. After a 3 hour layover we're off to Entebbee, departing Heathrow at 12:30pm 6/12 ...

... and nan impressive nativity set. A few nice old buildings but the charm of the town completely destroyed by the six lanes of traffic and parking on both sides eg took for ever to cross this 'freeway'. A shame because it could have been acute place. Bought a Texas souvenir in a funny shop selling all sorts of things from doilies to undies to souvenirs. $11 for a boot made of brass (and in India!). Andreas bought one too. Left ...

... br> Bike Ride down the Shoals Creek trail from 40th to Lady Bird. Playing in the dirt again with some super-friendly older folks in the community garden and writing under a persimmon tree. While finishing some laundry and packing at Luke's, I got into talking with Bill about blues and we watched a quick Son House and Bukka White DVD and headed to Trevor's to leave a note of thanks. Another home pinned. I bet I'll be back for a bit longer next time.

... That night, as the kids were laying in our sleeping bags inside the tent, Lucy and I were still awake. All night he tent had bulging a little inwards due to wind, but not enough to cause alarm. I was a little worried, but not much as I THOUGHT we had staked the tent. Between one instant and another, the wind was all of a sudden 60 MPH!!! You heard me. Lucy and I were holding the tent up, screaming for Sam to GET OUT!!! Dad and Mom were helping us. Finally ...

... India, as a game animal on private ranches. The airport still houses his smaller aircraft which he used to fly from Austin when he escaped the nation's capitol. He referred to it as Air Force One Half.
We stopped near a refurbished old-time farm nearby and had a bite to eat for lunch.


The traffic increased measurably as we pass south of Austin, a city of nearly a million folks. We got to McKinney Falls State Park early enough ...
