    ... he had to do because, to be frank, it's horrific. Part of his training involved going without sleep for four nights, followed by going without food for four days. If he didn't follow orders, he was made to sit in the sea for three hours, even if it was winter. He was 20 when all this happened. Three years later he still has nightmares.     ... leaving Pancake Rocks we carried along the road for about ten minutes or so and came to the Punakaiki Beach Camp, we pulled in and booked a powered site for the night costing us $36. After a long first day on the road we needed a good sleep. The chap on reception was very welcoming and we got sorted quickly. Using the camps kitchen facility we cooked up a little dinner before making the bed and getting an early night. Distance travelled today: 298 KM ...

    ... been walking through and seeing on the bus for so long. Westport was just a quick stop and now we're spending two days in Franz Josef which is such an amazing place, the views of the glacier and the mountain from our lodge is amazing! Chris and I aren't walking on the glacier itself as it has receded quite a lot over the last 12 months and for 300 dollars each there are a lot of people saying it's not worth all that money so we're going to do some of the walking tracks near the glacier ...

    ... after him! The night consisted of dancing on pool tables, playing drinking games, rolling in at 5am & being cooked a fry up by the Kiwi bus drivers in their room!
