... route at it best and iconic place, the Chapman's Peak drive. The narrow road winds up along the cliff, from sea level to over 500 m in a matter of a few kilometres. Despite the little flat section in the middle, it is impressive, and beautiful of course. We snap a few pics at the Peak, looking over Hoot Bay, and then drive down to the beach on the other side. From there, we drive up again in the Constantia Nek, another ...

... list in every guide book.' Uh. Lions? Wayne has been guiding for 17 years and has a vast knowledge of the area. He knew almost everything and had quite a few opinions on the government that he willingly shared with us. I don't think we could have made a better choice in picking a tour guide for the day.

Anyway, of course I wasn't thaaaat clueless but there is a lot to learn about Cape Town and we only covered a small part of it. We first visited the district in ...

... about his freedom. Once we agreed to go with Stan on the Garden Route (GR) he thankfully was open to spending the first day touring the cape. We were going to head towards the GR from there but Paddy wanted to stay and play another night in Cape Town as it was a Saturday night. He wasn't interested in the cape. I was kind of surprised he was so forward about his schedule and what he wanted to do considering Stan invited him and there was more than one person ...

First Day in Cape Town

We actually arrived in Cape Town on the afternoon of Monday, April 1. We had flown for about 16 hours altogether from New York, through Jo'burg and on to Cape Town, with another 3 to 4 hours checking in, doing security and waiting to fly. We had yelling children for about 12 of those hours, so we were pretty tired when we got in. After checking in to the hotel, we wandered around downtown for a little while in the rain, then had dinner and went to bed.
