Bangkok baby

A travel blog entry by andrew.chudiak

Arrived in Bangkok at 5:30am after the usual bad bus ride with little sleep. I have trouble sleeping on buses anyway and after getting on and watching a movie (Bad Boys 2, yeah!) the lights go out. The air-con where I am sat cannot be turned off and therefore, I am freezing. After 2 stops for food, I manage a couple of hours sleep before arriving …

It's not the destination, it's the journey

It has been my second Christmas that I haven't spent at home. Last year I was riding with friends down the great ocean road, now this year was spent in Koh Tao with Matt (my partner) and some newly made friends. As an only child, I feel really guilty about this as my Mum doesn't have other family to celebrate with... I always told her she should …

I had great luck on my flights out from Chicago to Bangkok...This is always the beginning of my journey, flying stand-by, and hoping to get on my flights. The perks of my job are being able to basically fly for free, but being very savvy in what flights to pick to have the better chance in making it on an available seat, and of course, getting a …

    Overall OK

Not the best place we have been but okay. 4 bed room is pretty small but it's clean. AC and hot shower plus TV in the room. There is less expensive places but this one is very central with small distances.

Room cost after haggling with a thai girl who flirted with me like crazy before buying the room and then ignored me afterwards (obviously).

    460 Baht a night.

    What I got:

A room with Air conditioning that works very well. The room size is about 1.95m x 1.8m with a single bed (hard mattress). It has a flat screen TV which is useless to me, however the plug is not. With an adapter you can charge your electronics. This is the only plug in the room. The bathroom is ......clean I suppose?!? But by English standards this would probably be called very very dirty. But you should remember that an English person pays 3000 Baht upwards for a room and not 460 Baht. A worthy note at this point is that I have drunk half a bottle of scotch.

In a nutshell, I have a shower and look at the toilet sharing the same tiled floor as the shower and I think of all the people who have missed or thrown up all over that floor. I can't help it, I am English and used to being spoiled I suppose.

There are no bugs in the bed but you may have the occasional duel with a cockroach to convince it to go and live in someone elses room. Absoloutely no mosquito's or spiders.

The staff are friendly and willing to help you in any way if you are friendly too. They have saved me quite a bit of cash because of thier info on public transport. TIP: if you are catching a bus or a boat, make sure it is going in the direction you want to go.

Overall I have had a good nights sleep for four nights (with the occasional use of earplugs as aircon and fellow travellers are loud).

If you want total cleanliness and obedient service without a hint of annoyance or sarcasm, stay here.

If you can accept a little dirt (bearing in mind this is so far the only thai residence I have ever had) and a little attitude (albeit well deserved) Then this may be your place.

    PLEASE CONSIDER:

The cleanliness of the guesthouse outside the rooms is very good.

The shower is hot and has a little power.

you arfe far enough away from Khao San Road to be quiet in the early hours.

    Mattress is hard.

You will be charged for anything you have including a lime or some ice for your drink.

    I would stay here again.
