Arnarstapi Hellnar, Iceland
... has traveled there before and has some recommendations of places to visit or things to do please let me know. That would be great.
Tentative plans are to go mid January and to spend no more than 3 days there. A work colleague will be joining me and anyone else interested in joining just needs to say so.
If you are still asking yourself "Iceland in january?" the answer is YES !!!! Why the hell not? :-)
Take care.
Nothing wakes you up like a jolt from an electric fence. I have a linear bruise on my inner thigh to prove it. We awoke before the sun to climb to the top of Grundarfoss, and a slight stumble while hopping said fence left me a little fried for the remainder of the hike. But we made it to the top for some stunning views of ...
Grundarfjörður, Iceland meghanwithanh... with a whale sighting and a large herd of seals splashing about at the base of snow-peaked mountains. A snowy mountain road closure made us take the long way around, but we arrived in Grundarfjörður with enough time to take in the sights around town and we even managed a dip in the hot tub before bed.
... of energy standing there, of the power of the people who had carried out law and order in that location - it was akin to standing in the white house, but without the tour guides and ropes, again.
The Geysirs are very different here than in the states, again primarily because you can get close, but also because at least one of them goes off every 5 minutes, like clockwork. The small ones were more interesting to me, more like giant hot tubs with a ...
... Go to Germany for beer festival.
Climb the Eiffel Tower. (That one is a big challenge for me, im afraid of heights)
Visit Sagrada Familia again. ( and climb it or go to the top )
I want to learn more about electric, I did learn some in technical school, but It was around 1994.
Electric is everywhere, people should know more about it!
More to come.. later!
... It was definitely an adjustment for me to be paying European prices for hotels after the beautiful $20 rooms in Central & South America...and most of the hotels, and architecture in general in Iceland, is not at all inspiring and lacking much character. We asked about the availability of whale watching tours and were told there is no whale watching at all. Huh? According to Lonely Planet this is the best ...
Hellissandur, Iceland margreet98... we left the ferry village of Stykkishôlmus. The mountains along the north side were beautifully coloured, lots of falls and tons and tons of birds nesting in crevasses near Olafvik. The south side was showery, it had sandy coloured hills and gravel mounds. Senica hid a bird, with the car by accident, it was small.
We forgot our coats in that ...
... it doesn't start till 12 or 1 but they stay open all night and the thing to do is wander from bar to bar - not cool to stay in one place too long. Lines form outside, that being the indication of the 'place to be'. In fact places allow lines to form even if they're not full, just to create a rep for themselves. The streets get wild - lots of noisy drunk people - there used to be so much fighting that they had to stagger ...
Arnastapi, Iceland rawhideone... If you're interested in seeing his work, it can be found on his Flickr site right here.
The tripod was just perfect, it was very light and compact enough to fit just right in the small backpack for carrying around with my camera.
I was staying at two friend's place that night, but as they were both on a meeting that night me and my brother took the chance ...
... or "Don´t you ever get sick of eating just ice cream?" or "So, how do you like Iceland?" (I´ve probably answered that last question atleast 100 times) That Sigga´s got a good head on her shoulders. I´ve invited myself to watch her favorite movie with her, Big Blue, which incidently is about diving in the sea. Maybe she´ll be my fourth snorkelling partner in Iceland!? As it turns out, I wasn´t able to get on a boat to Greenland. If I had gotten on the boat, my ...
