    ... to go to a city that may be associated with being murdered inside a hostel. Which, I'll have you know, was not filmed in Bratislava at all. So I guess after seeing Eurotrip, I expected Bratislava to be kind of derelict. It actually had a very nice old town, yet a lot of the old buildings were destroyed in the war. We also walked up to the castle, where we could see 3 different countries - Slovakia, Hungary and Austria. It was sweet to be looking into 3 places at once! Another weird ...

    ... before exploring some more amazing views and having a drink in a local cafe.

    We ended up missing our 3:30 boat so had to wait a long half hour for the next boat. All of us felt knackered by now so slept a fair amount of the boat journey back.

    Once back in our villa we watched a bit of the Tour of Spain cycling show-typical Willis' and then found our favourite Pemo shop to get some grub for a BBQ in the evening.

    ... the group by the famous Onofrio water fountain by the main entrance into the city, the Pile Gate. It was designed in 1438 to bring fresh water to the city from about 7.5 miles away. Amazing that it still works, and one can still drink the water. An inexpensive way to refill one's water bottle without the price gouging. And yes, the pipes have been modernized since 1438.

    What is probably most amazing about this Old Town is how much of it was destroyed in the early 90s. ...

    ... surprised to see that as instructed, all the Year 6 classrooms I visited had their wall displays completely covered up a week out from the exams. This was to prevent the children from copying down anything useful from the room that might influence their final grade. I taught for a few years in London in the late 90s.
