... into a stunning church that was built in 1680. It was in the grounds of a convent that dated back to 1380. The history here is completely mind blowing for us who live in a country where history only goes back to approx 1840. ... nice, he went over to his friends waiting in the car and as they were trying to figure out how to tell us the way, the driver just said, "follow us"! These young college kids who were probably not going in the direction of our hotel at all took the time to drive to the hotel as we followed them on our bikes.

Upon further inspection, I must have looked so pathetically tired, they must have taken pity on me.
We arrived at the Best Western Gouda ...

... myself because she will speak English. Duh! Everyone speaks English here, and very good English at that.
In the morning, Stanley and Corrie took us to two little towns to see some working windmills. In the first town, Terheijden (don't ask me to pronounce that), we went inside the windmill. It is actually in use. They mill the flour there, which was interesting to see, and they have a little store on the ground level. We went up three flights ...

... a wonderful cheese and tomato dip and calamari for Jan, his favorite. Later we had plates of meats, fries, and more calamari. And more wine, of course!

We are settled in our little apartment which is so large that it makes Jan think he died and went to heaven. We're not unpacked yet, so I don't have my own pictures to show you, but Stanley and Corrie took a few. We'll be doing some sightseeing tomorrow, so we'll hopefully have more pictures for you then.

Barge and bike tour has always looked very interesting to me. Holland, being a bike friendly country and full of canals and rivers sounds like the perfect place to do it. We booked the tour with Cycletour company from Amsterdam. In April and early May, they have special tours to bike through tulip fields and visit the famous Kuckenhof garden.

Holland is the recognized name for the Netherlands but North and South ...
