... of rum handy while they watched from the island as it burned. We passed so many islands, it was hard to tell them apart. They pretty much all look like green globs sticking out of bright blue water. We passed Manitou Island and I learned that Manitou means spirit. Then we saw Oak island where we got our first taste of sea caves. It wasn't very big, but Nick drove us into a small cave on the side of the island. He also pointed out a part of the island where ...

We ordered a drink and just chilled. There was a big dog hanging out, keeping warm by the fire. I went over and sat on a "couch" that was clearly made from a van seat (it literally was just a seat from a van). ...

On Thursday, we decided to go to Madeline Island just across Lake Superior about twenty minutes on the ferry. Madeline is one of twenty four islands in the Apostle Island National Lakeshore. After a late start we finally got to the ferry terminal and purchased our tickets for Suzy and I plus the bikes. I thought it was going to be cold going across the lake because it was a little cloudy like fog, but we ...

... Islands are now forested with no inhabitants except for 1, but come with a rich history of survivalists who tried to live thru the grueling 4-5 winter months. Several islands have sandy beaches at 250-500' high where the water level once was millions of years ago. The colorful caves make us wonder about their past. Town of Bayfield reminds us of Port Townsend, WA....fun quirky shops and eateries on the water's ...
