    12th Day of Walk

... walking I'm pretty good at navigating by my map and at the end of the day I took a risk by ignoring the route notes to deviate from the coast and take what appeared on the map to be shortcut to my B&B in Lamorna via a very indistinct track. I reckoned this would save me a least a mile. To access this shortcut I ignored all the very large and prominent "Private, Not A Public Footpath" signs and crept through the large and beautifully ...

... of the major 19th century mining sites.

Well before I reached Sennen Cove I had my first distant views of Lands End, the most westerly point in both Cornwall and England. Frankly, I feel two weeks of this coastal walk is probably too much. I've now completed about 90 miles (150 kms) and just two days and 17 miles to go.

I walked a total of 14 miles over these two days but they were the most difficult sections of the track so far. The scenery was more rugged than previously and keeping with this the track was very rocky in parts even requiring some boulder scrambling. On Monday 8th June I hiked 6 miles from St Ives to Zennor and today, Tuesday 9th June I did the 8 miles on to Pendeen. Today's track wasn't ...

... oven is temperamental at best so it was quite an achievement to get all this done in time. We had to keep mum out of the dining room as this was all a surprise for her but she needed to use the bathroom which would normally require a walk through the dining room or kitchen, both of which were out of bounds for her, we compromised by throwing a towel over her head and guiding her through! After we had devoured breakfast mum opened ...

    ... even swimming.

St Ives is the largest centre since I started a week ago in Padstow and being a Saturday the waterfront and narrow lanes of the old town were very crowded. As in Padstow, a lot of people just sat in seats or hired deckchairs on the edge of the harbour where they had a grandstand view of the boats sitting on the sandy bottom.
