Today was our last day in Salzburg. Neither of us were hungry for breakfast after last nights feast, so we headed 20 minutes outside of town to Schloss (castle) Hellbrunn. This "small" castle was built in 1613 & named for the clear spring water that supplied it. It was meant only to be used as a day residence for the Austrian archbishop - so there are no bedrooms in the palace. The main attraction of this palace, however, are the ...

Waddling out of the Cafe Sacher, we took the bus back to our pension, jumped in the car and drove a few kilometers to a cable car which took us up 7,000 feet to a mountaintop hiking destination, the Untersberg, from which we could look far into the distance and survey the beautiful countryside below. Dinner at a little restaurant down the road from our accommodations ...

... point. However, our luck ran out. We were in search of the catacombs at St. Peter's Cemetary, which was adjacent to the Festival Halls. We wandered around St. Peter's Monestary grounds and took a wrong turn. It resulted in Cheryl and I walking up several hundred steps and hiking above the church grounds towards the Salzburg Fort. Good grief. Fifteen minutes later we made our way back down to our original starting point, took a left instead of a right and immediately found the path to ...
