... We, the other three, decide we should drive to a "nearby" beach. It's about 5 klms away so off we go. Before you know it I'm confidently driving down a one way. The wrong way. Minor problem. We're on our way. Paul has the map in the back. Lisa is asking if he can see such and such street. Paul says "Do you see anything that starts with a K". We had no tour planned for the day. So we just walked around and got lost in the ...

On Katherine's to do list from her 1976 trip to Europe after university was the hike down the Samaria Gorge. At 16 km, it is the longest gorge in Europe. It was a bridge too far then but not this time, 40 years later. This time we were staying in Hania which is the closest city to the Gorge. We booked a round trip bus from our hotel. Although the pickup time was earlier than a regular bus we were guaranteed ...

... after they restored it between 1830 and 1840 but this version of it was built by the Venetians. Dinner was close by at Chrisostomos which specializes in baked meat. The place was packed and we were glad we had the hotel make a reservation for us.

There is a good days worth of walking around the old town which we did taking in the castle, the waterfront, the Mycenaean archeological dig and just absorbing the Greek feel of the town ...
