... festival was taking place. They had far crazier uniforms than the gauntlets and plumes we endured. The bands were great though, even the younger kids sounded professional.

We ended up being "done" way earlier than the meet up time. Jon found us Kaktus popsicles, covered in pop rocks, not bad. Good day for exploring. We're probably ready to brave the autobahn and drive next time, for the few hours range that is.

Stef's tour of Rosenheim, Kufstein and Wendelstein

... out. Main train hub to connect to other regional trains.

Met up with Stef and we drove to Kufstein in Austria. First time on an autobahn!!! Woohoo!!!
Checked out the Kufstein Festung (fortress) which was completed in 1522 with some parts dating back to the 1100's.
Overlooks the Inn river and nice views of Kufstein and the the surrounding area.

Ate Kaiserschmarrn and spatzle for the first time which are both ...

... hand at an ariel assault course....he came back a shell of his former self after 3 hours in the trees hanging from bits of wire and trying to keep up with 9 year old girls who were more agile than him..for my penance I had to play pitch and putt with Lauren using carved putters and wooden balls..no danger i'll be joining a golf tour anytime soon.

Definitely worth a visit in winter for you keen boarders out there.

... loop but takes you to another peak and it is all on the top edge of the mountain. We went on part of it, but it was pretty dangerous. We stayed up there as long as we could and the clouds parted a few times but still not much for the views. It was really great to see this though, its amazing how they built this, the elevator, and the access road (which is famous on its own) in only 13 months! Hitler only went to the top of the ...

On Top of the World

... ago. At that time we had entered the bunkers from that staircase and there was just our little tour and it was all very awesome and personal. In the new center, one enters from a well lit hallway (with aforementioned storyboards). And there were crowds of people coming and going everywhere. To me, it just didn’t have the same atmosphere.

We had to hop onto a second bus to head up the mountain to ...

A brief visit to Kufstein

... of courtyards and buildings, and eventually a steep tunnel leading down to the courtyard below.

At 12:00 the Heldenorgel or Heroes' Organ pipes up and swells the courtyard below with its tunes.

I didn't see much to recommend more than a day's visit but we were glad to have stopped off here.

We wandered along the river back to the van to head off to Munich.

Rainy Salzburg

... for days after all! Our tour guide freaked us out slightly by telling us he had something special to tell us, then not telling us what it was. Had we won a prize? Had our holiday been cancelled? Would we have no accommodation? We had to wait till halfway to Kitzbuehel to find out. It was that there was a triathlon going on right around our hotel so we might not be able to get to the Welcome meeting the next morning as the road was going to be closed ...

Doe, a dear...or was that Beer?

... went like this, "Walk that way, stupid." Not really. The guy was actually pretty nice, but it really was just a couple of blocks away. I had a great location really. Salzburg is like two towns; the small, localized old town that consists of all things a tourist would think the small Austrian town where Mozart was born should and the newer section to the north where most of the residents actually live and work, which looks much more like any-town Europe. Needless ...

Berchtesgaden

August 26-Monday
We left Kitzbuhel at 8:30. There was a brief stop in Berchtesgarden, in Germany, at 10:00. Up on the side of the mountain, we could see Hitler's Eagle’s Nest. It was rather chilling to see that part of history. The bunker is now a restaurant. Our rest stop overlooked a valley filled with wonderful homes. What a view! Back on the bus and on to Salzburg. Time 10:35.

... plot’, if you will, for all its members…who are buried atop each other. Memorials, such as crosses and upright stands with names and dates, are surrounded almost completely by flowers. It is all so cheerful, not sad looking at all.

As we were walking around town, we saw several wagons decorated with flowers. We decided to follow them, just to see what was happening. Were we in for a surprise! Apparently there was a festival in town and ...
