We had just completed about 8 hours of flying and it was 4am in the morning but we had arrived in Rio. Again, we noticed that beautiful sulphur smell as we stepped out at the airport and walked down to our cab. We then negotiated quite strictly with our cab company as they were trying to charge us $130 raeis. We knew we could get it for $80 and we did, much to our original drivers displeasure. ... is there, eat our food (delicious) and then wait a bit longer. Blake and I decide to head to the corner bar down the street to get a drink and tell David to meet us there when Alex arrives. Have a couple of beers and eventually they show up. The subway station is a block from our apartment (could I have done a better job at finding a place??) and is free to get to Maracana so we pile in with the thousands of others and head to Maracana. ... Rio is a combination (contrast?) of forest and beaches and very beautiful). Corcovado is 800 metres high and is made of concrete and tiled in soapstone (like a mosaic).
