Cameron Highlands

Ipoh is a fairly big Malaysian city that is set amongst jungle-clad limestone hills that jut out spectacularly to make some stunning scenery. The minibus did not stop here but soon after passing through Ipoh we turned off the main highway on to what may be the windiest stretch of road that I have ever been on. The scenery was stunning but hard to take in completely with the minibus driver pushing the limits on how fast these roads can be navigated. For 60 kilometers or so, the road winded its...

Tea Plantations and cold weather!

2 days in the highlands of Malaysia Another day of travelling as we leave Penang for the Cameron Highlands (nothing like Scotland!) in what has to be described as the worst smelling and dirtiest bus on the planet! it was minging! Anyway we eventually arrived and checked into the Father's Guesthouse on the hill. We only had the rest of this day and the next day here, so time was short. We went for a short walk along one of the forest trails to stretch our legs before heading back to the guesth...

Cameroon Highlands

We arrived in Ipoh at about 1100 which meant that we missed the early bus up to the Cameroon Highlands and faced the Prospect of waiting around til about 1600 until the next one went, it was worth it though as the Taxi drivers wanted well over 100RM to get up there whereas the bus was only around 15 for both of us. After waiting around the Bus Station for an hour and chatting to some locals we went into town to grab a bite to eat and to pick up some snacks and a power adapter for the trip up ...

Strawberries, Bees and Roses

Today was a semi early start, I think it was the first time that I wore a jumper during the whole trip as well! Today we ended up taking the only organised tour of the whole journey, we went to see a Rose farm, A strawberry farm, a pretty cool Tea Manufacturing plant, a bee sanctuary and a big Chinese Buddhist temple built by a rich rich man. We spent most of the rest of the arvo relaxing at the guesthouse and watching movies. We managed to down quite a few beer's with some crazy Germans and ...

Get to the highlands

2007_10_31 Getting to Cameron Highlands I am writing this from a small patio in a mountain top. Waiting for my breakfast. It is 60 degrees . . . The coldest I can expect for the duration of my journey. Yesterday, after breakfast of noodles and spring rolls, I ventured out and acquired a bus schedule, antibiotics and malaria medication. I have been trying to kick this cold I picked up in Iceland and I am afraid it was turning into a sinus infection. Also, from my last SE Asian experience, food...

Cameron Highlands - Attack of The Inevitable Fish!

Good afternoon boys and girls! We have just spent the last few days in the Cameron Highlands in Malaysia- an area renowned for its tea plantations and cool (bloody cold!) weather (according to an exhibit at one of the tea plantations we visisted, it gets as low as 16 degrees celsius at night! Freezing! At least the low temperatures have allowed us to rehydrate a little...) [Rich: It felt more like 7 or 8 degrees C because we are so used to the heat. I couldn't believe it was 16+ degrees; we w...

Our Malaysian mosey around

Asia here we come! Mile # 15850 We could hardly believe Egypt, that we survived, no bad water, no bad food, no RUNNY BUM!! Malaysia is totally different as you would expect, from being hot and dry in Egypt to hot and humid amongst green foilage, jungle and clean roadsides! Approximately 75 km from the airport is Kuala Lumpur and we were welcomed with a torrential downpour! Driver barely slowed down just all the motorbikes were stopped under the overpass to escape the rain. It was a real treat...

and the real adventure started, or so I thought

Hi there,

Ok, I think when you plan to do a trip like this you must expect to get sick in some point, is like something that you truly know is gonna happen but to be truthful I never thought it would be right after the 10th day!! I cached a big could, fortunately no fever appeared so It wasn´t that bad…

I took the bus from Melaka to Cameron Highlands, the bus is a fairly modern bus with AC, for my could is not the best but there is no way to switch it off, I realize that...
