Proper Boh i tell thee
Hi everybody James here, the next section of the Malaysian adventure is the Cameron Highlands. The Cameron Highlands are extremely picturesque, as mentioned in our last post the transfer bus we took from Penang was not the greatest of experiences however not letting this get the better of us we pushed on to begin our Cameron adventure. The Cameron …
Cool retreat
We arrived at Father's guesthouse at 4pm. Finally a respite from the heat and humidity that we have been experiencing since... well probably since Kenya! Our digs are basic but comfortable. It's very back-packerish but has everything we need. We walked down the steep steps in to the town of Tanah Rata to explore the area. It's a quaint little town …
Cameron Highlands
Ipoh is a fairly big Malaysian city that is set amongst jungle-clad limestone hills that jut out spectacularly to make some stunning scenery. The minibus did not stop here but soon after passing through Ipoh we turned off the main highway on to what may be the windiest stretch of road that I have ever been on. The scenery was stunning but hard to …
Tea Plantations and cold weather!
2 days in the highlands of Malaysia Another day of travelling as we leave Penang for the Cameron Highlands (nothing like Scotland!) in what has to be described as the worst smelling and dirtiest bus on the planet! it was minging! Anyway we eventually arrived and checked into the Father's Guesthouse on the hill. We only had the rest of this day and …
Fresh Air, Green Hills, Good Tea - is this Asia?
The minivan down from the Perhentians was probably the most comfortable so far and we both had a bit of a snooze. It took about 5 hours altogether including a stop for food in a roadside cafe where we probably had the nicest food in Malaysia yet! We switched buses then for the last hour as the bus we had been on was continuing to nearby Taman …

TravelPod Member ReviewsFather's Guest House Tanah Rata

Fathers is very clean and very basic. The staff (especially Jason) were very warm and welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable. Don't expect frills and 5 star - go to a resort for that. If you want a low cost, comfortable stay with like minded travellers then this is the place for you.

We had less than 24 hours in Cameron Highlands, so the excellent staff made it a lot easier for us to make the most of our time there.
The room itself was clean, spacious and had a great view, but it was a little run down, and having a toilet in the room itself isn't always pleasant.

Fantastic dorm with loads of space, nice and quiet, attentive and friendly staff, and super clean. Restuarant is good and the location is perfect. Nothing but good things to say.

We stayed in what is referred to as the new addition to fathers which is a about a 10min walk from the original.
A little overpriced for what is essentially a shared apartment and bathroom albeit nice ones.
The place is way to far from reception making it a pain in arse for any enquiries or to organise the many treks, tours and activities that the place has to offer.
I recomend taking a photo of the billboard so you dont have to go back to refer to anything.
HAve a look at the other places on offer before checking in here unless desperate.

Father's is a great Hostel. It's set on a small hill overlooking Tanah Rata village. The dorms are normal standards but the chill out room makes this a great place to relax after a long days treking in the Jungle and mountains. They play movies most nights and the breakfasts are good too. It's a really pretty setting for a lovely guesthouse. And if you've got more of a budget then they have private rooms which we looked on longingly with ensuite shower and facing onto the garden. I'll be going back!

Staff are brilliant. The communal areas are full of travellers willing to share stories. They offers some great tours. Rooms are average but are well equipped for the colder evenings.
