We got up early and packed our cases, we were leaving Langebaan behind and heading to Stellenbosch. After a couple of nights enjoying wine country, from there we would leave for Cape to spend the remaining few days of our holiday. On our way we visited Babylonstoren, a place recommended to us by a guest who was staying at the lodge in Kruger. A lovely place with rows and rows of fruit trees, veg plots and so much more! Then it was ...

... More creatures on the road made for an entertaining 'wacky races' style dash but we got there at 17:57.........
Dinner on the beach at Driftwood. Ridiculously cheap cocktails, really excellent grilled kingklip and the remnants of a glorious sunset over the ocean. The waitress asked us if we would take her back to the UK with us when we went home. ........we just ...

First stop, the bird hide overlooking the lagoon. No end of waders and flamingos and gulls and terns and swallows. ......We stayed there for ...

An early appointment at the spa this morning for a much needed manicure before loading up the car and heading off.
First stop, Kirstenbosch botanical gardens in Cape Town. What a fabulous place! We had intended staying here 2 hours tops but it was 4 hours before we could drag ourselves out! I had wanted to drive past Sahara Park (Newlands) on our way north just to have my photo taken outside but we got a bit lost so had to bin that and get on the motorway. I'll come ...

    DAY 19: 8 September

We discovered a bath last night and how did I enjoy the first bath in 18 days. I only like a bath when I am cold (thus in winter) and I have been cold many times – this made up for all the baths missed in my life!

We wake up with the birds at Velddrift – ok not really I have been awake most of the ...
