Machu Picchu

... from Poroy at around 9 and arrived at the hostel 20 mins later. Jeff was already back playing poker and drinking. I had a beer then sent an email to Daniel, who wanted to travel the Sacred Valley (the Inkan ruins around Cusco) with us. I got an email back saying to meet him at the office at 10 in the morning. I then drank more and played pool with Jeff, who then went out for a little but I went to sleep at 1 because I was exhausted. A great day overall though.

The Inca Trail and Beyond

... with no time to think about how you will manage, you´re already doing it.

There were 12 of us in our group, 2 guides and about a dozen porters. Each porter can carry up to 24kgs so each person is limited to 6kgs - 4kgs really because your sleeping bag has to fit in this weight limit. Its really quite difficult to pack to this amount and as a result I pretty much wore the same thing everyday - since we weren´t showering who cared if we were dirty was my ...

23 hour bus ride!

... my bus and I was able to see some of the market. She needed to stop in the meat section. She needed a pig for a party she is having for her husband. It was an entire pig (missing feet...wonder where those went). It was small compared to the footless hog for sale. I guess the head is optional, because there were 3 heads in a large bucket.

Hope everyone is doing well. Wish you could all be here!

How come I didn't learn more Spanish

... home. I do feel at home, but I just want something different. I did work on the path in the greenhouse. It looks ok. Now I took another shower. I was head to toe dirt. I did get some sun today and I can feel it on my face. Tonight we have dinner at 6:00 p.m. and at 8:00 p.m. I will help with English class with the students. I need to think of a game. I guess that will be fun.
Cusco – Salkantay – 70 km – Pach

... built right around a railroad station just for the tourists. It feels kinda like a ski resort town, with its coffee shops and restaurants and bars and barely any housing for the small amount of locals that live in the area. But it sure was nice to get to our hostel where we had a hot shower and a bed to sleep in. I was happy. Our last dinner was prepared by our wonderful cooks and was of course delicious and my wonderful trekking friend had bought me cake and ...

Meeting the locals

... We booked our Salkantay trek with a great local company called Quechua Expeditions which landed up costing us only about 200 dollars each. Not bad considering that when I was back in the UK buying my airplane ticket, I almost bought a trek to Machu Picchu with a UK company that would have cost me over 600 pounds..Anyway, it is also better to do it with the locals - it's their place and they would know more about it.
