On to Washington and 1st stop Mt. St. Helens.

As I wrote in an earlier blog, our granddaughter was anxious to see a volcano and here was a big one.

We arrived and planted our RV at the KOA close to the monument, ate some lunch and went off the see the mountain.

The Johnson Observatory is located on Johnson Ridge. This is the ridge where Volcanologist, David Johnson observed the volcano blowing ...

Hi Everyone - Hope you all had a nice Labor Day weekend and hopefully all the kids are glad to back to school (I doubt it). While we are not happy with the campground, there is so much to see around here so it's worth it.

On Sunday, 8/31 we visited Mount St. Helens Volcanic National Monument. While I do remember when Mount St. Helens erupted, I never realized the magnitude of its destruction. Mt., St. Helens was dormant for ...

We loved our time in Long Beach, but honestly, after a week we were ready to hit the road. Much of Long Beach reminded us of Nantucket, especially further out on the peninsula it really reminded us of Sconset. The farther out we went, the nicer it was. Many of the houses were so beautiful and you had water views on both sides of the road in certain areas.

The fog is something else in Long Beach. One hour ...

... was not happy, but the coffee was really terribly weak.

The hiking wasn't too difficult until we got to the steep slope where you had to go around carefully where some gravel had washed down the slope. Brenda was uncomfortable with this bit so she didn't pursue and Lolita had no burning desire to do it either so I followed Candae to the uppermost viewpoint on Johnson Ridge (or so ...

... But after lunch we did go for a drive up the mountain to see Mt St Helens. What an awesome thing to see. So much devastation still today after 24 years!!! We were back at base by 5:30/6ish, were we had a combined dinner with the Driegens of steak, potato and sides. Post dinner galah consisted of chatting, campfires, cribbage, and a freezing cold shower. I'm off to get some much needed sleep out in Seaquest! ...
