Reflecting on another COP gone by
COP 17 was my fourth UN climate change
negotiations, which is somewhat shocking to me as I honestly didn't
see myself attending another one after my first, which was in Nairobi
in 2006. Instead of COP 12 being a one-off, COPs have become a key
component of my life and seem to have played a role in every aspect
of it from love to work to travel to family. (I literally got myself

... op de universiteit, en dan zijn er blijkbaar allerlei stalletjes en muziek en bier over de hele campus, dus daar gaan we nu eerst van genieten.
Verder is stefan lekker bezig op het lab en is mirthe lekker bezig met dingen regelen om te doen. Het is nu wintervakantie hier, en daarna zouden allerlei projecten opgestart gaan worden, dus hopen dat er dan wat te doen is!

John did his best to power through all 3 trenches but the last one was so deep that the car crunched and was damaged so needed to be sent away to the garage- we were car-less for the rest of the time. Riots in Sankontshe

On the way back we drove into Sankontshe and noticed there was loads of debris on the roads and then we came across a huge ditch that ran the whole way across the road. It didn't look deep and stopping the car was NOT an option so John drove slowly through. BANG! It was a bloody great big ditch and even in a 4x4 it made a crunching noise ...
Durban-thunder & Port Elizabeth's sunshine
... al konden we concluderen dat dit het vakantieoord is van de native South African dus echt een Westers sfeertje hing er niet.. en laten we dat nou net erg leuk vinden (zie restaurantjes en barretjes langs de stranden en aan de boulevard, die er dus helemaal niet waren). Dus eten in centrum Durban werd het niet. Gelukkig kregen we een leuke tip van onze accomodatiebaas te horen, een Italiaans restaurant boven een winkelcentrum niet eens één km van ons stekkie vandaan.
