... Fort Cornwallis, a small British-era star-shaped fort on the northern coast, a few token British memorials, and then Gurney Plaza - the up-market shopping centre which from inside gives no hint as to which country you're in.. designer shops everywhere.
Had an interesting chat with an old malaysian couple called Edward and Mary (pretty much everyone in Malaysia speaks English..), which involved talking about why Londoners are so rude ...
... giant bags, I decided to walk. It couldn’t be that far... I thought.
After about an hour of walking through the rain, which was actually quite nice, otherwise I would have struggled in the heat, I found myself walking along a motorway, right next to the busy traffic travelling at high speed right past me. One little fact I had overlooked when I set upon this mission is that Penang doesn’t actually have any pavements!! Such a ...
... what was going on in my head during that first bite.)
Let me back up a bit. I love curry.
I don’t consider myself a gourmand by any stretch, but when it comes to food, I live for curry. Curry-based dishes easily make up half of the food I cook for myself (and given how spicy I like it it’s usually only myself who eats it), and I’m constantly striving to ...
... architecture and a trip to 'another' shopping centre......then we proceeded to to catch a bus to Penang Hill......900 metres.........the highest point on the island........just arrived at the base of this 'mountain' and the heavens opened up.......and it looked like it had set in.............no point going for a scenic view if one can't see!!!!.............so.......into a cab..........back to the hotel to freshen up ...
Georgetown, Pinang, Malaysia macro1234... Britney Spears when she had a mental turn and cut off all her hair, fab. I scream "Terima Kasih!" at him, 'You've ruined my hair you imbecile!' Terima Kasih means 'Thank You' in Malay (it's the only phrase I know in Malay), but it was said with the tone of 'You've ruined my hair you imbecile', he smiles, I want to smash his teeth in with my flip flop.
Need some diving, off to the Perhentian Islands on overnight bus tonight, how exciting.
Penang, Georgetown.
We arrived on the iisland of Penang at about 05:00 am. Both of us feeling somewhat destroyed after another overnight bus journey. We were dropped off south of Georgetown at the long distance bus station. At this time in the morning we had to resort to getting a taxi to Georgetown. The local buses wouldn’t be running till about 07:00 hrs and we weren’t helped in the proceedings due to our Lonely Planet guide book being a misprint and every ...
... queue of Hot Mommas could be seen outside the American embassy in Bangkok, small Leuk Kreung babies on their arms applying for American child support that could feed the whole family up north in their dusty home villages!!! Nowadays the American navy has gone elsewhere, too busy fighting Muslim extremism in Irak and Afganistan and the Hong Kong Bar here in Penang has gone just as quiet as some of the bars in Soi 6 in South Pattaya.

Cameron Highlandseilla vietetaan nyt toista paivaa. Eilen lahdettiin pikku kavelylle katsomaan laheista vesiputousta. "Vesiputous" osoittautui kuitenkin metrin korkuiseksi pikku puroksi ja jatkettiin vahan edemmas matkaa, ylos vuorenrinnetta nakoalatornille. Nakoalatorni oli korjauksessa, joten paatettiin jatkaa viela vahan eteenpain katselemaan mita viidakossa nakyy. Loppujen lopuksi kaveltiin noin neljan tunnin vaellus ...
It had to happen to us at some point. And that time came on the island of Penang, Malaysia. Tim was bearing the brunt of a bout of food poisoning - and I didn't fare much better. But in between dashes to the loo we managed to sample Georgetown's mix of Malay, Chinese, Indian and European influences. Crumbling old colonial buildings sit side-by-side Buddhist temples ...
Georgetown, Malaysia richandtim... Friday) the three of us (us and Andrea), decided to take a bus to Teluk Bahang to watch the dragon boat racing, as we are not mega impressed by Georgetown. We took what we were told was a half hour bus ride and arrived at the dam where the racing was taking place 2 hours later! Seriously no sense of times over here! We were dropped off at the bottom of the hill and had to walk up 310 steps to reach the dam area. (Yes I counted them!) By that time we were seriously in ...
